I Can't Stand It

I just can't stand it anymore! It used to be that in America we prized moderation and centrism.

But now...?

My evangelical friend looked at me the other day and said in all seriousness that she would not see Broke Back Mountain because of "the gays"

A Jewish classmate went on a tirade about "crazy Catholics"

Pope Bendict called Islam a "violent religion"

People are getting killed left and right in Iraq because of religious fanatacism. Even Christians are getting mixed up in the whole mess.

Catholics and Christians have been killing eachother in Ireland for centuries.

Our President is determined to do everything in his might to deter medical advancement because of his religious fanatacism.

Several Islamic countrise forbid women from showing even a pinky (while men are allowed to walk around however they please) when the Koran only states that women must cover their "breasts"

I am sick of it. I tried to be a Christian. But if there is a God, he wouldn't have wanted this. Remember the whole "love thy neighbor" thing? Whatever happened to that?

All I see is bigotry, racism, and violence. If this is truly what God intended, then he's not my God.

God wants freedom for men. If people choose whatever bad thing they desire, you cannot blame God for that.

Was that before or after slavery? Maybe that was during the skirmishes between settlers and "savages." Alternately, it could be when they sprayed peaceful demonstrators with fire hoses or when they drowned women for being accused of witchcraft.

Racism and bigotry have been around for millennia, and they're not likely to go away.

FYI, Catholics are Christian.

Atheism ftw :)

"FYI, Catholics are Christian."

Uh, try telling that to a Protestant! Have you ever taken AP European history or world history?!?

It'l all end December 27th, 2012, don't worry. Just sit through & watch the circus. Oh, & make sure you've got a good seat come the end; wouldn't want to be uncomfortable.

"the Koran only states that women must cover their "breasts" "

The above statement is false. Muslim women are supposed to cover their entire body, although the extremism in which muslim women dress these days is not acceptable, and is against islamic rules.

isnt Catholocism just a "branch", or different practice of Christianity? Excuse my spelling if i spelled Catholocism wrong.

It's Catholicism btw.

Anyway I totally agree with OP...this kind of stuff drives me to pursue atheism and completely break from christianity. And I was baptized.

"Have you ever taken AP European history or world history"

I’m guessing you have, man your cool!

Catholicism is the original Christianity. It has been around MUCH longer than any other form of Christianity.

^ 100% correct

Actually,
I have studied the Koran, and it says women must only cover their breasts. If you don't believe me, why don't you read it? It's only about 80 pages and goes pretty fast.

Covering breasts is a far cry from the garments many Muslim women are forced to wear today. It's all about male dominance.

No, Catholicism is not the original Christianity.

I mean, ...oh God, I'm not even going to bother.

Just forget I made this thread.

"No, Catholicism is not the original Christianity."

Well, it certainly isn't Protestantism, 'cuz that only came about some 1,500 years into Christianity. Eastern Orthodoxy? About 1,000 years into Christianity. What's left? Catholicism.

Just accept the truth, man! Jesus Christ founded the One, Holy, and Apostolic Catholic Church, and His Apostles spread it. Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, and Peter were all Catholics. Peter was the rock, the first pope, who was martyred at Rome, right at the site of St. Peter's Basilica, the primary parish of the Catholic Church.

Even the original Protestants, such as Luther and Henry VIII and their followers, did not deny this. Their argument was not that Catholicism wasn't the original Christianity -- they openly acknowledged that it was -- but that the Church that Jesus founded had since fallen from grace by human corruption.

Umm....Actually, I have read the Koran countless numbers of times, and I can assure you that it is more than 80 pages long.

The koran certainly tells women to cover their breasts, AS WELL as their entire body (excluding the face, hands and feet). Why else do you not see muslim women running around in Bikinis (generalization).
I myself, am totally against the fact that some countries abuse these Islamic laws by making women dress in a most extremist fashion (making them cover their entire face etc....)

isn't this what this thread is about? whether it's "christian" or "catholic" really shouldn't be the point.
that's why I'm an athiest.

No matter how much you may hate religion, don’t give up on God. Please.

craze2000 is right, and ive read the koran at least 5 times. firstly, the Quran in Arabic is around 640 pages, not 80. in the Quran it says that everything but the face, feet, and hands must be covered. it was also the tradition in the time of Mohammed (pbuh). i do agree with the OP's point, though, that in some islamic countries is has become too extreme. the prophet never forced anybody to do anything against their will, and he always gave women their rights; in fact, they had more privelages then men. He used to help his wife in cleaning the house and mending his clothes although he had a whole nation to run. His first wife, Khadija, was a bussiness woman herself and she had a considerable amount of wealth. The prophet never told her what to do with the money she had. Today, these rights are being violated by so-called Muslims who only want to see what they want to see in the Quran and then use it to justify their actions.

Well said.
