I can't start on my assignments until 30 minutes before class starts...

I can't start on my assignments until 30 minutes before class starts (cuz I daydream SO MUCH ABOUT STUPID PARROTS), so I just get the adrenaline rush to start WORKING on my assignment just before it starts and I walk into class to turn it in 45 minutes late without penalty and then daydream through the rest of class while trying to read through my math homework.

OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME

Typical attributes of a person with a severe lack of brain matter.

I’d say it’s simply because there’s no reason for you to do otherwise. What I mean is, what you’re doing is working, and apparently allows you to leisurely spend your time. If your life depended on finishing an assignment, that would be a different story. But there’s no real deadline/requirement/impetus to force you to finish. In the end, what works out is what is done. Doing homework at home 10 hours before the deadline, vs. 5 minutes before the deadline, really comes down to one question: Are you able to turn it in on time? And in your case, with the latter, yes.

Now, if there was a penalty for turning the assignment 45 minutes late or whatever, you would surely adjust to that. But, for now, there’s no need to. This is what you/your brain has (sub)consciously figured out.

I think that you’ve turned yourself into a major procrastinator. You finished assignments by a certain deadline, missed the deadline once but still was fine, and now you knew that you could get away with doing a project at a later time. And this has been going on and on until now your mind thinks that it can do a project 30 mins before class and still be alright.

My only advice is to work your way out of this procrastination. It’s going to take a lot of willpower, but you’re going to have to re-train yourself to work if you ever want to fix this.

On a side note…why on earth do you daydream about parrots?!

lol good points.

it’s not just parrots i daydream about - it’s EVERY animal that I think of as unusually intelligent for their family or class, so it includes manta rays, corvids, bears, and others too.

I am the same way… Literally do no homework half the time.
