I deferred enrollment, considering applying to others. Will my college find out?

I am taking a gap year before college, and have deferred enrollment at a school I like a LOT.

However, as part of the deferred-enrollment agreement, it says that if they find out I have applied elsewhere, my application will be up for review and I may be rejected.

I sort of want to apply to a couple schools that I probably won't get into, just to try, during my gap year. But I don't want to risk losing my place at my current college.

I'm not applying for financial aid or anything. Is there any possible way that my college could find out if I apply elsewhere? Do colleges share this information? Lists of names?

I’m sure it is possible. Your school has to send transcripts and I assume they are aware of your deferred acceptance and that those deferral terms are a common condition. If anyone called to rat you out the school would investigate. It is not worth the risk at a school you “like a LOT”.

Whether or not you would get caught, do you really want to start your collegiate career cheating on an agreement that you made?

Imagine this: Getting rejected at the schools you decide to apply to, and getting a rejection letter from the school which had accepted to. Stuck with no college.
