I desperately want to go to lehigh! Chance me please and i will chance back =)

Hi, I'm relatively new to the website but I think I sort of know how to use it. Basically I just want to ask all of you about what my chances are to several schools based on my grades. Anyway so I'm going to be a senior this year and obviously I am looking at schools already. Top schools are BU, Lehigh, and Trinity College. They are basically reaches for me. My GPA out of a weighted 5.0 scale is 3.46 and I scored a 2090 composite on the SAT (Math: 700, Reading: 640, Writing: 750).

Now I bet some of you are wondering why I would waste my time applying to these schools with a low GPA. Also, some of you are probably surprised that i scored that high on the SAT given my GPA. Well let me explain all of this. You see, going into Frosh year, I actually took several honors courses but did very poorly in them. At the time, I really cared less about school and cared more about sports and partying. This was the same story during my soph year. I actually ended up dropping all of my honors classes and received very mediocre grades that year too. After my first two years of hs, I was shocked to realize that I did so poorly and my GPA was a 3.18.

It was finally during my junior year that i decided to start caring about school and my future. Even though I took all reg. classes and only one AP, I was determined to do well in all of them. Turns out, I ended up receiving all A's and only one B+ and my junior year GPA was a 4.05 and overall it is now a 3.46. I was also more than happy with my SAT score. Planning to continue on with my hard work, I am now getting ready to tackle some of the hardest classes at my school which includes AP Physics C E&M, and AP Calc.

People tell me all the time that colleges will love to see the improvement that I made. At the same time, I am having two great teachers write letters of recommendation about my improvement of my grades. But is this all enough for me to get into these schools? in addition, I plan to write essays on my experiences. My extracurriculars include 3 years of football, 2 years of track, and one year of wrestling. I am also a member of Heroes and Cool Kids leadership program at my school, and a certified EMR. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK!!
THANK YOU!

You have a stellar SAT score that will definitely compensate for your GPA (which isn’t bad at all). I like your ECs and just write a killer essay then I strongly believe you will get in to Lehigh

BU: Low match
Lehigh: High match
Trinity: Reach

If you are serious about Lehigh I would highly recommend that you take steps to demonstrate your interest in the school, including a campus visit, or if tha is not possible, request an alumni interview.

Oh Sorry yea I forgot to mention that I did go for both the campus tour and an alumni interview at Lehigh!

You have a great SAT score and good ECs you have a good chance!

Everything look perfect, i’d be surprised if you don’t get in, just show interest in the school through your essays. Good luck.

College admissions tend to be holistic … I envision you getting in

Im pretty sure that colleges do look at improvement trends in grades, so thatll help you out, and your ECs and SAT are solid, so yeah, you should be in pretty good shape to get in

It is a high match. Good Luck!

Your SAT scores should compensate for your lower GPA, so i think you are fine

I think the schools aren’t too outlandish for you.
The SAT’s make up for it and your EC’s aren’t too shabby it seems.
Do you have any leadership positions?
Anyways I’d say
BU: High Match
Lehigh: High Match/Low Reach
Trinity: High Match

chance me back bud!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1396945-chance-me-unc-uiuc-utex-uf.html</a></p>

your SAT score is good but I wonder whether your gpa may pull you down.
Trinity: high match
BU: match
LeHigh: reach (low)

Ur ECs are pretty good by the way.

bumpp…

your SAT is good and will probably be able to make up for GPA. just write good essays and get good recs and you should be good. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1397712-chances-cornell-georgetown-some-others.html?highlight=cornell</a></p>

I think you present yourself very well, I would say you had a good chance at each of these schools. Trinity may be the toughest one, by I think your chances there are alright too.

bump…

You can find a wealth of information on many (if not most colleges) by googling “

Let’s look at Lehigh and see how you stack up. – Here’s the link.

http://www.lehigh.edu/~oir/cds/lucds2011.htm</a></p>

Question C-9. Your SAT-CR and SAT-M are both within the 25-75 percentile corridor for Lehigh’s enterring class. Each schore is probably a bit above average, which is good. But will not blow anyone away.

Your grades, however are likely to be problematic. Lehigh reports that over 95% of their enterring class was in the top tenth of their class. Though you don’t share your rank, my guess would be that you’re not in the top decile. 99.9% is in the top 25% of their class.

Interestingly, Lehigh claims that Class Rank and GPA are “Considered” in the admissions process but are less important than other factors, including “Level of Applicant’s Interest”. (Question C-7). However, “Rigor of secondary school record” is one of the two “Very Important” factors. In your case, this may be problematic. When you took the “hardest” courses you didn’t do well. It was only when you dropped back to less rigorous courses that you excelled.

Overall – I think that Lehigh is a reach for you, and think it might be a far reach. However, I personally believe that there is nothing wrong, and a lot right with applying to a dream school that is a reach, so long you have good mix of Target and Safety schools based on your stats and other factors. This is especially true where there is a story behind the grades that may make a difference.

You can do a similar analysis for Trinity and BU – Here are the CDS Links.

http://www.trincoll.edu/AboutTrinity/offices/InstitutionalResearchPlanning/Documents/CDS2011-2012.pdf</a></p>

http://www.bu.edu/oir/files/2012/05/cds.pdf</a></p>

Based on a quick eyeball of the Data – Trinity seems to be easier to get into than Lehigh (this surprised me a bit). Maybe High-Match/Low Reach – though the rigor of schedule issue is still there. BU looks like it falls somewhere between the other schools.

Hope this is helpful, and I’m sorry I can’t be more optimistic about Lehigh.

Good luck!!

btw whats a more competitive major, Finance or Civil engineering?

hey I got into UPitt with my stats lolol
