I am a sop. at a college prep school(private) and I had a 1.9- 2.0 freshman gpa and currently have about a 2.3-2.5 sop. gpa. I have not gotten back my psat scores yet, and I am involved in the school and the community. I write for the alumni newletter, and I am my class rep. for sports council. I also am class secrtary. And am involved in three clubs and play softball.

I would like to apply to the University of Texas as my first choice but there are some others. I still have two years I know but would like to know what the chances are with grades like these

Do you live in Texas? Where do you rank in your class? If you are OOS you will probably have a difficult time getting in with those grades. You still have two years-get those grades up. Showing steady improvement will help some in the admissions process.

With those GPA scores, your chances at UT--Austin are essentially nill. You would still have a chance of some of the other UT campuses, just not at Austin. As someone else pointed out here, they have to take top 10%, leaving room for very few others--and at the current time, you are not yet in the top 50% of your class.

Your chances are near none. You need AT least a 3.0 to even consider applying...unless your school is insanely hard and top 10% is only at a 3.0

You're not even half way through your sophmore year. You still have half of your sophmore year, your entire junior year, and the first half of your senior year. Needless to say, you have all the time in the world to raise that GPA.

I do go to an insanley hard school because a D at my school is a C at most! The grading scale is really difficult! Thanks Alienheat4 for giving me hope!
