"I don’t recall postings here about requests for specific FinAid clarification and documentation in past years, so I wonder if a new tea leaf has just sprouted? "

Hah, Madbean! Yes. Now I’ve witnessed the sprouting of a new tea leaf AND participated in it! Must conclude that I’ve found my sealegs here on CC. It’s official, LOL!

Seriously, CC and all of you have been so helpful. Thank you!
And good luck, Legacymom. Fingers crossed for you. :)

We too received a request for additional documentation. They wanted my schedule C, our tiny sch E (from a right of trespass payment), but most alarming to me was this form I had to fill out with my monthly expenses for 2011 and projected for 2012. That’s a whole lot of personal info when my son’s chances are 25/approx 500 applicants for Popular Music. Like Redstar I had to explain why I don’t accept child support, etc etc. It made me uncomfortable.

I work in a field where automatically-generated requests for information are the norm, so I’m reluctant to believe it means anything, but if the application numbers are right, that’s an enormous amount of info collected. It’s hard to believe they would WANT to deal with it.
Unless, of course, they make a buck on the side selling our personal information to the timeshare people.

The support on the USC forum since S1 days has been phenomenal! I was able to maintain my sanity only because of the awesome parents on this board thank you so much!!

Madbean, I still think kids need to be part of some formal education…only because they might not get the total exposure to academia otherwise. S1 is learning a lot by doing things as he goes along, his practical experience is amazing and he remains focused which is great. He has mentors in the valley and he himself mentors others. Does this replace ‘formal education’?.

@LegacyMom: thanks for the encouragement! You’re correct about our situation; relatively uncomplicated. Nothing really to report, in fact! No divorces, additional properties, businesses, or student income, and both parents are unemployed, so I suppose FAFSA/CSS should be sufficient should I be admitted!

RE: Reading the tea leaves (the sprout now thickens…NOT!)

I have regretfully concluded that USC likely processes all FA regardless of admission status. A knowledgeable senior member on the FA forum explained in an older post that, as a rule, FA offices process all applicants. This must be so: how could USC possibly wait until March to start all that work, with deadlines looming weeks away? I’m thinking they must process all completed applications, on a rolling basis, through the admission season. There’s just no other way the task would be done in time.

I’m wishing our little tea sprout the best, but think it’s a goner.

Prodigyy11 has posted to another thread about being asked for late FA info, wondering as we all did if it meant admission. Today he/she announced acceptance. So maybe the tea leaf IS beginning to sprout.
