I'M in NO sports! Yeah I am not a go-out-in-the-sun type of person! I was in Girls' Tennis for 2 days I HATED it I quit! :( However, I have this group that I call "Fierce Fitness" LOL that I made that includes my friends. Around 10 people are in it. We meet at my house every weekend to workout IN my house, 'cause I hate the sun. We all use myfitnesspal to watch what we eat. Workout 6x a week =P Just wondering if this a legit EC...haha.

2 very interesting articles about ECs that stand out and how to get them (same author, different examples) are at [How to Be Impressive](The Art of Activity Innovation: How to Be Impressive Without an Impressive Amount of Work - Cal Newport) and [Save This Grind?](Case Study: How Could We Save This Ridiculously Overloaded Grind? - Cal Newport) While I don’t agree with his explanation of why they stand out, take a look at these 2 articles and I think you’ll get some original ideas.

I’m not quite sure how you live in Southern California and “hate the sun”. You’re going to be in for a long life if you hate the sun.

love your EC’s

1) Do what you like and 2) be committed to it in as many ways as possible. ECs are all about developing your interests. Don’t think too hard about it–if you hate sports, then don’t do them, obviously.

If you’re fluent in Vietnamese (and I am going to take a guess that you ARE Vietnamese), are there things that you can do with that skill? Could you be a translator in your area or do some kind of work for the Vietnamese community? If you want to go into medicine or become a nurse, why not volunteer in a hospital and see if you like it? Think about what you like to do and what you are interested in, and then pursue those interests through your ECs. And be active over the long-term in your pursuit of these interests–don’t just do an EC for a few months and then quit. Stay with it (unless you end up hating it, of course).

It is unwise to do a long list of random ECs for the sake of padding the application or to do something that you don’t like for the same reason. Colleges will be able to tell if you’re doing ECs for the heck of it. So find what you care about and then stick with it. And don’t be afraid to take leadership positions or do summer programs.

Thank you! ^^ Junior year isn’t too late is it?

I don’t think junior year is too late… I did some volunteering and ec’s even during my senior yr. I got into some places and I don’t really have that much volunteering (and they’re not as impressive as other peoples’)

You can’t “make” your ECs unique. They’re either unique or they’re not. Just get more involved in them and remember to do that because you enjoy doing your ECs, not just because you want to pad your resume.
