Starting on ECs

Hey

so I have very little in terms of ECs.

I did did some jv sports however I doubt those are important.

My grades are good but I lack the ECs, it is my sophomore year and I wanted to get started on some ECs. I'm interested in volunteering especially at hospitals but I have no idea how, they seem to only want people with high qualification and the last time I applied freshmen year I got no response. I've also invested in some FBLA competitions and hope to do well in those to hopefully get an officer position or rank nationally.

Any suggestions for ECs?

How about a job?

Also, very few colleges care if you had any ECs, you know. It’s a myth that’s widely held by HS students.

2 very interesting articles about ECs that stand out and how to get them (same author, different examples) are at [How to Be Impressive](The Art of Activity Innovation: How to Be Impressive Without an Impressive Amount of Work - Cal Newport) and [Save This Grind?](Case Study: How Could We Save This Ridiculously Overloaded Grind? - Cal Newport) I don’t buy into his underlying explanation of why they are impressive, but take a look at these 2 articles and I think you’ll get some original ideas.
