I dont know if I should go to highschool or not...

My life is an emonional reck and highschool drags me down everyday. Im not one of the "cool" kids... Im a freaky loser geek. I cant stay at my school with my awesome classes, now i have a choice: move to a school that is REALLY crapy or be homeschooled. I just want to know what the best programs are to be homeschooled through if anyone knows of a good one. Id rather have text-based material and be able to work indapendently and at my own pace (which is super fast) Please offer comments.

by the sound of it, u sound like u prefer the independent environment - maybe u should go for homeschooling, but then again, u should think about what u might miss in high school too. i think maybe u should just go through what u want, think of the pros and cons of both options, and then make a decision.

whatever u choose, i hope u enjoy it ! good luck! :)

Wow... relax. Do you have a mentor/priest-type-person to talk to? The "My life is an emonional reck and highschool drags me down everyday" part scares me. You may be facing depression. You need to talk to someone in real life that knows you personally and can help you.

Second, could you explain "I cant stay at my school with my awesome classes, now i have a choice: move to a school that is REALLY crapy or be homeschooled." Are you moving? Why do you have to leave the school with the "awesome classes"?

Please, give it a few days before you decide to drop out of school. Can you finish this semester?

Homeschooling could be wonderful, but you need a lot of self discipline and supportive parents to make it happen. Again, I think you need to talk to someone in real life about this.

Try a new school first.

wyhatver u do, be happy.

On one side I say stick with it because it can only make you stronger but on the other side if it's really taking a toll on you and you think you just can't take it anymore then go to a new school but it really doesn't help you in the long run to keep running away from your problems...homeschool has it's good points and bad points...look into it a bit more before you make such a drastic decision...

if your high school is REALLY REALLY REALLY^1000000 CRAPPY, then it's better to be homeschooled. hey, some really smart ppl are homeschooled b/c schools can't accommodate them. if you're really self-motivated and STICK to your schedule, you can do really well...check out Stanford University's distance education classes for kids to supplement your work or something epgy.stanford.edu good luck!

Well i proablly do need to see a theripist but my mom wont let me, she said im a normal teenager. What i mean is i go to a school with high level classes and its chalenging adn i love it but i drive an hour every day to go to it because my aprrents work there. Now they are quiting their job to start their own at home. The school at my house is REALLY REALLY REALLY sucky. I am a GT student and id much rather be homeschooled but my parrents want to stay totally out of it. I would actually do my work but I dont know where to go to get the work and stuff liek that. And as of earlier today, I dont have a choice to keep goin to my old school.

How many years into high school are you?

Im a freshman, so not even a year has gone by.

RUN, don't walk to Amazon and buy the book "Teenage Liberation Handbook" by Grace Llewellyn. It will outline more options than you could possibly imagine at this point.

Do u mean crappy as less challenging or bad environment?
I moved from a competitive school district to an less competitive one and Im actually liking it.
You can always to more stuff at home if its too easy.

Bad enviroment, definatly. Ok lets just say there are 100 kids in each grade level... and none are white... Im nto being rasict, im jsut saying- they would terrize me more than is imaginable... I want ot be homeschooled, now the problum is where do i go?

if you want to be home schooled with some independence, i know there's a diploma program through the center for distance and independent study with the university of missouri cdis.missouri.edu . another online distance learning program is through stanford, education program for gifted youth. i'm not sure if they have a diploma program though. you might look online for some other programs. these programs allow you to work at your pace, within a time limit though, but since your pace is "super fast" you should be fine.

Thats true. Having a bad environment is different.
Well what about a boarding school or something that you could apply to next year?

"Bad enviroment, definatly. Ok lets just say there are 100 kids in each grade level... and none are white... Im nto being rasict, im jsut saying- they would terrize me more than is imaginable... I want ot be homeschooled, now the problum is where do i go?"

umm...that came off the wrong way...how would they terrorize you...I've experienced less bullying in a 97% black school then at a majority white school...and way less cliques...but I'd guess you'd just feel uncomfortable being in the minority...just know that when you go into the work force you're going to have to work with people from many different backgrounds and you're not going to be able to play "Pick n' Choose"...but uhh...if it bothers you that much, then talk to your parents some more I guess...you're going to need their support regardless...If no one else cares about you, your parents will...

hYpEr MiCe, I recommend being more assertive with your parents about talking with a therapist, if you really feel you need to talk with someone. You're the only one who can really know what kind of pressure you're experiencing, and how much you can take. If the people around you are in denial, you have to care enough about yourself to get help.

As far as homeschooling goes, there are as many different ways to homeschool as there are homeschoolers. However, if you're taking full responsibility for this on your own, you might want to enroll in a correspondence school, where you will get some help and support.

One of the oldest and most highly regarded correspondence high schools in the country is University of Nebraska Independent Study High School - http://nebraskahs.unl.edu/ It's a rigorous, well organized, and respected program. You can either use their classes to supplement your homeschool program, or enroll as a diploma student and earn your high school diploma with them.

Hang in there!
