I'm currently a highschool junior and I just had a few quick questions. I really enjoy math and science (and to some extent history) and I really like just thinking of abstract ideas that could lead to really cool inventions. I was talking to a couple of seniors at my school who are really smart, but only one did any sort of science competition. I was wondering what are STS, ISEF, Siemens...what are the differences. Are there any important dates I missed/need to know. When should I get started. I would like this info since I already missed out on applying for RSI @MIT which is what I really wanted to do but kept procrastinating and didn't getthe necessary forms. If this isn't worth while, would it be better to intern at say NIST or NOAA?

You’re going to need to wait until next year for Siemens and ISEF I think! I am fairly sure (although not positive) that you need to compete in your local branch of it before you may move onto ISEF and I believe the Siemens deadline was in September! Sorry!

OH well, i am just looking into umd geology research

finishing up my NIST app

I have some experience with the Siemens competition. I competed in it as a sophomore, and found that the majority of winners were either seniors or teams with at least one senior, so your odds will probably be better next year.
