i don't know what to do..

I'm really beginning to get stressed out about the admission process. I go to a really hard school, it's rated as the hardest in my area. Freshman year I messed up and got one D both semesters with Cs in the rest of my classes. In 10th grade I pulled everything up, and got mostly Bs and Cs, no Ds or Fs. This year was a killer first semester I got all Cs with one B, but this last semester I got two Ds. Which is especially awful because I only have time to retake one of them. I just feel like it's kind of ridiculous though, I go to a prep school and all of my classes are honors(I had the option of taking one of my D classes as nonhonors but decided not to because I thought colleges would think it looks better even if it's lower, but yeah).I'm not the hardest working student nor am I the brightest, but I know if I went to a public school or atleast another private school my grades would be way higher. Anyway I have a few volunteer hours, I was on bowling, and got a 25 on my ACT. What's it look like?

I really just want to go to a decent school out of state, I don't have like harvard lined up but some small decent school that I think would be good. Some of them include Franklin Pierce University, Sacred Hart University, and U of rhode island, but I have about a list of 10 that i'd be happy at.

What is your question?

Hey! First of all, DON’T STRESS! You already set yourself apart from about 60% of the high school population by trying your hardest and worrying about your grades. Colleges and universities KNOW that prep schools are on average harder than public schools and will factor that into their decision. Second of all, if your guidance counselor knows how much effort you are putting into your grades, he/she will probably mention it in their recommendation.

Here’s what you have to do. What are you doing over the summer that only gives you time to remake one D, may I ask? Anyways, raise that grade as high as possible, and then spend your time writing a killer essay about yourself. Be creative, be different, and DO NOT complain about how hard your school was in your essay. Give the colleges a reason to accept you! Second, start considering which teachers you want to ask for your teacher recommendations. Third, I went a prep school, and a girl with similar stats as you got into Sacred Hart (I don’t know what her ACT/SAT was though). Just be sure to show interest in those schools, call them up over the summer and ask for average ACT scores, etc. Be prepared to pour your heart into those Why This College essays.

GOOD LUCK. I’ll be praying for you!!
