I don't know where else I can post question-

During my summer after 9th and 10th grade my Uncle and Aunt was in need of a babysitter, and with my sister originally being the babysitter ( until she started to work at Arbys) I was the one to take the role. So now I'm stuck on how to list this as a ec's. What would be the proper name for listing babysitting, and given the time period I mention I babysitted... would this count as a 9th and 10th grade summer activity, or 10th and 11th grade summer activity ( babysitted each summer after 9th adn 10th grade).
Thanks

Umm… people do things for their family. You shouldn’t put that on your app.
You should just be happy that you’re helping out.

^
Wow, that was just ridiculous.

Just because something is a ec, like in my situation, doesnt mean yoru not happy for helping out.

Anyone who babysitted for a full summer 9th and 10th grade, or just one… it’s worth mentioning… universities do take those things into consideration.

jeez relax. I didn’t say you weren’t happy. I’m just saying being happy helping out your family should be enough for you. I haven’t heard babysitting for your family being an extracurricular. Ever. It’s not going to make any impression on colleges.

I would read post # 4

Well I’m not speaking of ec’s like school etc… but the university ask about any other community service, volunteer service done out of school. I know many people who suggest that it’s worth mentioning, which I do plan on doing so at least in the additional box etc… I just don’t understand what your point is, oh well.

I’m in the same Situation. I’m babysitting this summer. I thought that babysitting is ridiculous asan E.C.- just saying.
My dad was the one who said this," you should keep a diary of what you do with your two- year old brother. You could psychoanalyze him as a two year old."
I admit that it seems fun. But after my parents get home; I just want to worry about my summer assignments. I always thought this idea was pretty insane but I don’t know- what do you all think?

Babysitting would be a pretty inane thing to put on your college app; most people have that experience. Colleges want to see things that set you apart from others.
Anyway, in my opinion, Coolbreeze, stop being a smug jackass.
nil that is actually a neat idea, I dunno how you would put that in your application, but it would make a pretty kickass essay if you ask me
just don’t be [like coolbreeze](<a href=“Top - RawSVG”>Top - RawSVG)

Gee, I’ve been babysitting my 5 year old brother since he was born. I’m not putting that on my app.

But if you really want to, I think you should list it either as a job (if you’re payed) or volunteering. I don’t think it can really count as an extra-curricular because it doesn’t really fit - you don’t go babysitting like you go playing ultimate frisbee, if that makes any sense. That would make you a bad caretaker.

Okay, just what I thought
so putting babysitting in an application is a bad idea.
Thanx.
bye.

Oh yeah I don’t mean to list it as a ec’s, more so its my intentions to go under volunteering. I don’t think it’s a bad ideal to list it.

FranzKafka your really ridiculous, and I mean really ridiculous. You should probably find something else to occupy your time online if you can’t stay in a decent manner. So enough of you being a example of a jerk.

Just curious. Where do you want to go to college?

Also. “The back of yo head is RIDICULOUS.” haha

^
Wow,

Well I’m not surprise many jumped to the conclusion as if when they ask for ec’s I’m listing it right under there. It’s more so under volunteer service, and will mention my two full summers of babysitting in a additional box given, well worth it ( my opinion).

What universities I want to go to… well there is a lot I have in mind, I’m likely to make my list smaller:
Michigan State University
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
University of Minnesota- Twin Cities
Pennslyvania State University- University Park
Indiana University- Bloomington
University of Iowa- Iowa City
University of Illinios- Urbana Champaign
University of Wisconsin- Madison
George Washington University
University of Washington- Seattle
University of Southern California
Purdue University- West Lafayette
Ohio State University- Columbus
A few more

(Don’t know why this interest you)

What about sitting a deaf-mute developmentally delayed relative? It’s kinda difficult.

^
I don’t get it. With the recent comments I got, I don’t know what you mean by the post… though I’m picking up that your saying… yeah I watch a deaf-mute developmentally delayed relative which is difficult, and I have no intentions on mentiong it.

In case that is what your trying to say… I’m not saying you can’t mention it, and I’m also not saying the babysitting was very difficult, you will find a lot of volunteer service not difficult but a lot of times enjoyable. I’m saying the babysitting took two full summers of my high school years, it’s well worth to mention. I have no intentions on listing it under ec’s, but I have already explained where I do intend to list in one of my recent post. The volunteer of babysitting for two full summers may be just as common as being in National Honor Society, summer camps/ schooling etc… I did not intend/ think many would blow up about such, I mean really…

^ I didn’t mean anything by it. It was a pretty random, meaningless post. I happen to have a cousin who is deaf-mute and developmentally delayed. I have no intentions of mentioning the one or two times I’ve watched her, especially because most of them were probably when I wasn’t in HS.
It’s actually not hard at all to watch her.

Sorry if I upset/confuzzled you.

if anything you could include it in one of your essays, if teaching is something you want to do, or pediatrics, as far as a resume answer[that can be tricky], i would ask an adcom officer around here that question, perchance choose a diff forum…like college admissions…?///
