Probably a frequently asked Q, but does babysitting count as an EC?

I helped my little bro learn to read, and I've been watching over him and my other sibling since 9th grade.

Family obligations such as watching sibs or elders should be mentioned. Make sure your GC backs you up by including a line about it. Not everyone has the luxury of a stay at home parent who can chauffeur you to tutors, club meetings, team practices and rehearsals. Good for you. You've served your family well.

Good luck to you.

I would definitely mention it!

My oldest dd has two younger siblings with autism and she's been an invaluable help at home and she's certainly going to mention how much she has helped them on a daily basis.

I believe she's going to mention it in her personal statement / essay, rather than list it as one would a 'job'.

Mentioning it in your personal statement would also give you time to elaborate on it -- I'm sure you've helped your younger siblings in many ways, not just helping the little one learn to read.

Best of luck to you!

Yes, it would count as an EC as long as you have dedicated sufficient time to it. :)

Yep, I thought so. I put it down, at least. The common app asks about "family activities" among its extracurriculars, and I think babysitting applies.
