I know that CS is the key to so many majors and employment. I even code in my free time and like it a lot (like Rosalind). But my CS class is awful! I don’t care about the theory and we have problem sets where we have to do with problems that I just don’t find interesting at all like counting change… Am I wasting my time taking these classes when I would rather teach myself? I like physics and math and economics and sciences and philosophy and programing, but not CS class, and it kind of kills me inside. Help me!
Don’t fret! If you code in your free time and like it alot it is just probably the theory and the classroom environment. Is this your first CS class? Or have all your lower division CS courses been like this? My 2nd CS course had a terrible professor and that class was awful for me, even though it was CS.
If you don’t find the “computing” science or theory behind computers and algorithms interesting, that’s definitely alright. Most of it isn’t necessary too much for a typical programming job. Focus on what your interested in. If you have felt this about multiple CS classes, I think a Math or Physics major would be better, with a minor in CS. Physics/Math major will get you into many programming jobs, as long as your free time and the CS minor gave you sufficient knowledge.
