Or those of us who don’t choose to use illegal drugs do so because we just don’t really want to. I do smoke, not much but I do. It’s a lot easier for me to get cigarettes than weed, it’s legal, and one potential career I’d like doesn’t allow for use of illegal drugs. I don’t demonize people who use illegal drugs though… it’s their choice. If it doesn’t affect others I don’t really care.

Just a tip though, you’re not helping your case by comparing everyone who doesn’t do drugs to Hitler.

Out here in the adult world, a lot of cool, successful people do not drink at all, or drink with major moderation. Some who abstain completely are in recovery. Some are Christians, Mormons, allergic, or in training for an athletic event. Some are Catholics during Lent. Or not during Lent. Some really value their minds and bodies and take extra good care of themselves. Some are…who the hell cares?

People who are normal and confident will not think anything either way if you do not drink. Most cool young people, even college aged, would not care either way. If someone looks at you funny because you do not drink, they are most likely a young person who lacks confidence, or a person of any age who has a drinking problem.

One thing is definitely true…people who drink too much and slur are looked down upon in the adult world, and more often than most young people think in their own age bracket as well. It may work with other slurring people, but people who have chosen to drink moderately or not at all (which is the majority) with find those who drink too much to be annoying.

As for how to have fun away from the party people…Start booking your calendar with fun activities…clubs and the like…until you bump into some folks who prefer sober fun. A lot of people who have real interests or passions (and didn’t just pursue them to look good for colleges) will be less into drinking. Perhaps not the football team here (although I am sure there are sober players), but math, film, drama, running, writing, fine arts…etc. etc…you will find some folks in those types of clubs who are more chilled (for whom a good night includes little or no booze).

Please don’t overlook the kids in recovery as well. Every school has them, and young people avoiding alcohol and drugs need sober friends (companions who can be counted in to stay away from mood altering substances whenever they are around).

i know it’s been a long time since i was in college…but does the fact that you drink automatically mean you will get drunk? are you either a total non-drinker or a raving lunatic? surely you can go to a party and enjoy yourself without someone barfing on your shoes…

Believe it or not some people like the tastes of certain alcoholic drinks. Sadly the stuff they serve at college parties either tastes like crap or has no taste.

I won’t even be able to drink when i get to college just because my religion prohibits me from drinking alcohol I don’t even knpw what it smells or tastes like…literally havent had a drop of that stuff in my system haha

also another reason not to drink alcohol: you get wasted on a Friday night and the next morning, your lab supervisor calls you in and you have to disinfect with 95% EtOH…

You can’t even stand to be 10m away from that bottle

I don’t drink and never will trust me you will be much better off with out that crap. Kudos to you! as for finding friends that don’t drink well you will usually find the smart people don’t drink and considering this forum u started i take it you are also very smart. Good luck to you!

As an avid runner, I will in no way be lots putting alcohol into my system while at college. Plus my body structure cannot in theory handle anything but sparse quantities of alcohol. However, I don’t plan on being a social outcast from events, it’s more of finding the right people and having fun in your own way, be it exploring the college town, attending events, or hanging out at parties as the designated driver :)

I have had sips of a few rums, beers, other alcohols, and champagne is the only thing I can stand to taste.

“I don’t drink and never will trust me you will be much better off with out that crap. Kudos to you! as for finding friends that don’t drink well you will usually find the smart people don’t drink and considering this forum u started i take it you are also very smart. Good luck to you!”

Wow you are ignorant. Better off without that crap? How so? A glass or two now and then of red wine is healthy for you. Or is it because people do stupid stuff when they’re drunk? Much of the time people just use it as a scapegoat for doing stupid ****, and I know plenty of people who do stupid stuff under the influence of absolutely nothing.

Smart kids don’t drink? I’d like to think I know a large number of smart kids, many of whom do extremely well here at Cornell, and some of them drink moderately, some of them don’t at all, and some of them get wasted on a regular basis. Intelligence and alcohol are totally unrelated.

If you don’t want to drink, go right ahead, I couldn’t care less. But don’t judge people that do, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it.

ZFanatic I must give you mad props for using “couldn’t care less” correctly. I see far too many people saying “could care less” when they obviously mean “couldn’t”.
