Alright, so I really need some advice here. I am a second semester freshman just starting my spring semester into school, studying economics and finance. I’m having a really hard time seeing the benefits of being in school as of the moment. I have a 4.0 and really academics is one of the strongest pursuits that I have in my life. That being said, ,I’m extremely unhappy. I am paying for all of my schooling and going into thousands and thousands of dollars into debt to get a degree. I’m not really sure that is worth it considering that out of college, I’ll make tops $60K out of my first year. I’m very worried that I’ going to regret being in school for so long and not really do much to further my career in that time. It has also been very hard for me to get my student loan situation under control and I might not even be able to take loans out. I am very hard working, while having two jobs and in school. I’m just not sure what other options are available for me and how beneficially college is really going to be towards my career. I need any and all advice because I am truly lost.
Why are you going thousand and thousands of dollars in debt each year? How much more precisely is it?
Can you attend a cheaper school?
Don’t disparage $60K when you graduate. If you don’t graduate and you have all of that debt, you will have a hard time paying it off. Graduate, but maybe you can find a cheaper school.
Congrats on an excellent GPA. It may make transferring possible.
If you’re already going to have 60k debt then I think that right now you should be applying to transfer to a different school. You still have time to submit applications. With a high GPA some schools will consider you for very generous merit scholarships, and you’ll still be in-state for wherever your residency. I don’t know if any school is worth $240,000 in debt for four years.
Yup, find a cheaper school. You might still have to work a lot, but the prospect of less debt may take the stress clouds away so you can sort out what you really want to do.
First, congratulations on your excellent GPA. You are to be commended for that. You also deserve credit for holding jobs and working hard while being a student. With that being said, is there a way you can go to a less expensive college? Live at home? I do think avoiding debt is a good idea. Not only will it help once you are out of college but it will ease your stress level while in. But with that being said, whatever you do, finish and get that degree. You can do it. Good luck!
