I don't want to be disrespectful or bothersome, but I need to know their ideas?

Hi guys, I founded an aviation club at my school. Long story's short, it's very successful, and a couple professors from UNT and other schools have emailed me, interested in what has happened and giving me advice. My question is, can I email a professor first? My dream school is rice, and I'd love to talk to a professor in the aerospace engineering program about advice, suggestions, or recommendations for the future of both the club and myself. Plus, it might help my chances of getting in.

Long story short, should I talk to them and try to start a convo, or are they too busy or too important to talk to a high schooler? I'm not just trying to get in easier, I genuinely care about his/her opinions. What do you think?!

Thanks!

I would email a prof if you really want to-honestly, some profs are really busy and some not as much-and sometimes even the busy ones are so passionate about their studies they might make time for you anyway.

Also, profs usually are not on the admissions committees-so I don’t know if they would even think that you are trying to use them for admissions-and I’m not sure if it will help you get in easier too. Best of luck!

Thanks so much! Even if they aren’t a huge part of helping me get in, I still really want their input for my club. I really want us to be successful. Plus, I’d get a feel of the university through them, and that’s great. Of course I’d love a little boost, and maybe if we become close that could happen, but that’s not my main goal. I’m doing this for my club, I just don’t want to come off as a selfish kiss up trying to sneak into the university through them

Any other suggestions?

Oh make sure you look them up online to see their creds (if they are a doctor or just a prof (so that you don’t call a dr. a prof or a prof a dr)-also make sure to thank them at the end-just basic polite stuff that you probably already know haha

I’m hoping to find one with published work so I can read it first and discuss it with then

Ok I did email him! I’m also going to email the music coordinator about my high school achievement. I’m going to have to stop my senior year and I want to know if I could transition back into the music program

In the music program

If the music director does not respond you could probably just call the department (a secretary will probably answer and give you your info about the major-what you need to have etc.-they often know about how declaring a major works (if you need to audition or you can just declare it))

Not as a major, just as an elective

As an elective course in college? The person in charge of the phones should know the qualifications for taking a class or the course catalog (the list of all the courses you can take at the school) should have prerequisite requirements listed.

Ok thanks a lot! I really want to get a head start and get to know the university more so if I get accepted ill know what to expect.
