I dropped a lot on my SAT

The first time I took my SAT I got a 2190 (710 English, 680 Math, 800 Writing).
Second time I took it, I got a 2060 (670 English, 690 Math, 700 Writing).

As you can see, writing really pulled me down, though I wasn't expecting to maintain that 800. How will this hurt my chances of admission into, say, NYU? I know I probably don't stand a chance in top tier schools like UPenn, but I'd still like to try to get in.

Superscored, I get a 2200, but I'm afraid that colleges will have to see that horrible 130 point drop.

So, back to the question: how badly will this affect my chances of admission to good colleges? I go to a really good school (named number 1 public high school 3 or 4 years ago) and do quite a bit of ECs, and have a decent GPA (92 at the end of sophomore, hoping to pull it up to a 93 or 94, maybe even a 95). I also have a really rigorous course load next year.

Please don't try to make me feel better, I want the truth!

Thanks!!!!

btw, NYU does superscore, I checked.

I think the traditionally awesome scores of the people on here is skewing your idea of a good score. Even if there are people who retake 2300+ scores, a 2200 superscore is awesome. Personally, mine is a 2190 and I’m giving the ivy game a shot because who knows? Really?

NYU will easily accept an SAT score of your caliber and the drop, although it obviously doesn’t play a positive role, can’t significantly hurt you. However, if there were to be an applicant with otherwise identical stats and a more consistent grade of that level, I would assume they would have the greater possibility of getting in.

But, in all honesty, a 94-95 and a 2200 is definitely not holding you back for a school like NYU. Well done, btw

thanks for your reply! Yeah, that 130 drop won’t do me any favors, but hopefully colleges overlook that and instead focus on my school records more than the SAT…
