I had a horrible time in high school, so I dropped out. But, I plan on getting my GED, and I'm going to community college in the spring. I only want to go for a semester, though. Then, next fall, I want to start at a 4 year college in New York and major in theatre. If I do very well for one semester in community college, could I transfer to another school just based on that, or would they look at high school, too?
Also, I study a lot for my GED test, and plan on doing extremely well.

You most definitely could transfer to a four year university! My cousin dropped out of high school and went to community college for awhile then transferred to a four year university. Colleges will most likely put most of their focus on what you did during community college, not high school.

Typically, if you have less than a year of community college credits (passed or enrolled), 4-year colleges require high school transcripts and some may request SAT scores.
So you may want to take classes during the Summer as well (in addition to Spring) in order to transfer with more credits, or even take Fall classes at your community college and apply for Spring 2016.

Congratulations on turning your school career around!

You can definitely transfer; however, you’d probably find more success if you spent a whole year in community college before transferring. But, if you get in after a semester, then go for it!
