I will admit, this past semester I became lazy. I was just wondering if I still have the chance of going to a really good school(and I mean Columbia good).
P.S. I'm a freshman.

How is this not stressful? I really am aiming how when it comes to college, and I know that top universities(such as Columbia and Harvard) really care about these things. Yes, I have a life outside of school, but this is still important to me.

You can’t have a 4.0 unweighted GPA if you’ve ever had anything other than an A in a class.

I really can’t tell you anything from your individual grades, but for top schools it’s ideal to keep your cumulative unweighted GPA above 3.8 or so - that is, mostly As with very few Bs. (But if you’re slacking off in freshman year in easier classes, what’s going to stop it from continuing in harder classes?)

Also, keep in mind that top schools are highly likely to reject people even if they’ve never had a B in their life. There are a lot of things besides grades you need to worry about.

(Is there any particular reason why you want to go to a school like Columbia? Many colleges have wonderful academics. Have you ever even researched/visited any schools?)

My older sister currently attends Columbia and my family and I were very(I can’t emphasize this enough) involved in the application process(I even visited the campus). From what they sent in the mail and what my sister tells me, the school seems to be my perfect fit. Also, if a maintain a 4.0 GPA in Sophmore and Junior year, would it raise my overall GPA to a decent amount?

Do the math and see how much it would go up by.
But a C+ doesn’t look good.
Not saying your life is over, but there’s more to college searching than the ivies, and you’ll need to step it up if you want to go to one.

This thread is pathetic. Your highest goal in life is “top academics”? The point of an education is to contribute something, not because you want a name brand college…

I was bent on going to Brown my freshman year. Now, it’s basically off my radar and I’m only applying 4 teh lulz.

Your dream college may / may not change by the time you’re senior, due to the fact that you’re going to change a lot as well. So don’t worry about, and try not to get another C.

I think I heard that princeton only considers grades 10-12? And I think it’s the whole transcript that is considered…
But if you really work hard from here on out you’ve got a shot. But also, don’t set your heart on the ivies, no one really should.

Your school determines that. Ask someone there.

Adcoms do like to have more details, so they would appreciate trimester grades instead of just end-of-year grades. And the more details there are, the less significant each individual detail is when put in perspective. That’s why you should stop stressing.

Hey guys. I just found out I received a 94% in French(I take it online because my school doesn’t offer it). Will this help or hurt my situation?

P.S. Sorry if I come off as ignorant. My school doesn’t really have much of a counselor, but I was recently accepted into Blake, so hopefully things will change.

You do not deserve your grades if you are asking these questions. Grade Inflation Much.

Stop
Asking
Stupid Questions like if an A will hurt your chances or I will assume your a mindless ■■■■■ and every time you post again I will discount your post because of this thread.
