I failed two AP exams... what now?

I was really surprised. I failed my AP Calc AB and my AP Physics 1 exams (both 2’s). I wasn’t expecting to fail the Calc one at all… I go to a top HS and everyone takes APs and more than 85% pass so I feel really crappy right now. I got straight As all junior year and I was sure I would get a 5 on AP Lang, but I got a 4 after doing so many practice tests. I know my timed writes were either 8’s or 9’s. My practice multiple choice was also very good (I was one of the top scorers in my class). I feel like a failure. I don’t even know what to do. Definitely not even getting into any of the top UC schools anymore. I was trying to take 4 APs next year, but now I don’t even know if I should bother taking 2.

Most schools don’t require that you report AP scores. Check policies and then just don’t report the scores to the colleges who are okay with that. No biggie.

AP scores barely matter in terms of admission

Hi, thanks for your replies. I’ve been getting great grades and I have great SAT scores so I hope that is enough. It just sucks knowing that I failed and I put all this effort into studying.

That does seem a little unusual. You could try asking for a rescore if you want, but like the others said, it won’t make you or break you.

It doesn’t mean anything for admissions…it just means you will take Calc and Physics again in college because you won’t get credit for them. Your grade in the class is more important for admissions.

But that is okay because the curriculums for STEM assume you take Calc and Physics in college.

If anything, colleges are happy since they can just charge you for the classes you will be required to take. You are okay… Just missing out on the credits.

@leopardfire It will seem even worse that I scored an A in both courses, but received a 2. While my physics class was a joke, my calc class was very difficult. I can’t believe I scored so low still, but I feel like a rescore will not be worth the money I can spend on getting ready for BC next year. I don’t want to dwell on my failures too long, I just really just want to improve so I don’t fail college (and so I can have a successful career). I’m still afraid I will not even get into UW or any top UCs. I’ll be taking the physics, math 2, and bio subject tests so I hope those will help me a little.

Hey it’s okay  colleges don’t use your AP scores to factor into your admission, they use your grade. Honestly I wouldn’t worry to hard about it, and just use it as a lesson for next year. If you really feel like it was a mistake, you could get a rescore.

You don’t have to report your AP scores. Don’t.
Simple as that!
If you want to know what happeneed in calc, ask for a rescore.

AP test scores are nothing and do NOT determine your intelligence. Trust me, man.

Berkeley asks for all AP scores so not reporting them isn’t an option.

UCB asks for all SAT or ACT scores, not AP scores. You self-report on the UC application and send in your AP tests scores once you have accepted and enrolled. They are not used in the admission process other than to award college credit.

Don’t kill yourself stressing out over APs, seriously. Colleges really don’t care about your scores except for credit. You are so much more than a number

Thanks guys. I sent in the form for a rescore last week, but I don’t really care at this point since I’m more worried about getting through BC calc (and actually doing well even though it doesn’t matter since I’ll inevitably end up taking Calc again in college). D: The struggle is real.
