I feel like my GPA isn't good enough...??

I’m a sophomore in HS. My school only does weighted GPA’s so I was pretty proud of my scores… until I found out that NYU’s average high school GPA is a 3.5 UNWEIGHTED.
Now I feel so stupid and confused. I have a 4.02 weighted at the moment, with 2 honors and 1 AP. (they are scored the same, and I have B, B+, and A)
My freshman year was really bad… I had 3 honors classes, and got B’s in all of them.
I thought I was on a good route but now I’m not so sure anymore.
I can really use some advice and clarity on this situation. Thanks in advance!

Hi! I am a high school senior who just got accepted into NYU. My weighted GPA (when I looked at my transcript in September) was a 4.01. I had a strong senior year, so it probably was higher than that when the midyear report was sent, but it shows you have a chance (and I took honors, but no APs my entire time in high school, unlike you). Now, I also applied to Tisch, so GPA and artistic ability are given equal weight, but I could not have been accepted if I didn’t pass the inspection of the admissions department as a whole. Do well junior year and you should be fine.
And to comfort you about the B’s…my overall average in physics last year was an 80. Don’t give up!

I am also a recently admitted senior. I was accepted to CAS with a 3.3 UW and 3.6 weighted. I had a good reason for this, but it shows they are understanding. Additionally, my freshman gpa was like a 2.7 (but junior was 4.4). It might disadvantage you, but it’s always still possible to get in.

I’m currently a senior in high school. If there is one thing i learned, its that when a college says they do holistic reviews of the applications, they really mean it. An NYU admissions councilor could look at your GPA and say “well, lets see what this applicant has done outside of the classroom”. I got in with a 90 GPA (3.70) and a 1740 SAT. I’m not saying to not worry about your grades (keep your marks high!), but also focus on extracurriculars and community service. I had plenty of both, as well as good recommendation letters.

Thank you all so much! Phew, now I’m relieved - just need to keep it up! Thanks :)))
