I Feel Like the Worst Roommate Possible

So I guess I have some pretty weird/bad sleeping habits at night.

   I talk in my sleep
   I snore
   I'm restless

And it doesn’t help that no matter how late I sleep, I will always wake up before 9 in the morning. Went to bed at 5am? I’d still wake up at 7:30 not because I want to, I just do.

So when I go to bed she can hear me snore, hear me talk, and hear me move. recently it got worse because I went to India for two and a half weeks so my sleep pattern and habits are even worse after coming back. She bought earplugs because of me. I can tell when it really bothers her because she goes an sleeps on the couch in the next room. I feel really bad so I sleep on the couch sometimes but I never sleep well and wake up with really bad back pains when I do.

I can tell shes not a light sleeper because I can make some noise in the morning and she doesn’t wake up at all but when I snore sometimes she wakes up and calls my name so that I would stop snoring.

She never says anything or confrints me about it because she knows there’s not much I can really do about a lot of my habits. But I feel terrible and don’t know what to do.

Throw the matress on top of the floor in the next room.

The joys of dorm life. You can’t change who you are so your roommate will just have to deal with it. If she can’t she will move onto a different situation with someone else. You need to find a roommate who is a heavy sleeper and will not be bothered by the nightly noise. Don’t fret. Many kids sleep very deep. You should have no trouble finding one.

Good luck.

Honestly if you’re polite, friendly, and considerate, I think most people would take you over someone who sleeps quietly but is a total jerk.

If you snore that much, you might need to see a doctor and be checked for sleep apnea.

I agree with @Southlander. We have a family friend who snores and is a restless sleeper. Turns out he has sleep apnea. There are treatments, so it’s worth investigating.

I’m sure your roommate appreciates that you’re trying to be considerate of her. I’d thank her for her patience and tell her that you’re sorry that it disturbs her, but you’re researching causes and trying to find solutions. You both sound like good roommates to me. Good luck.
