Just found out I got in-- so, yay!
only downside, I live FAR away, and one of the contingencies of me going to Grinnell was that they would give me a heap o money that would also cover travel. I recieved a grant for 10,000 a year, and the office of financial aid says thats it unless I qualify for need-based.
Does anyone know what percentage of students recieves need based grants?

Thanks! I hope others got letters like mine, too!

I think that Grinnell is pretty generous with their need-based aid with their huge endowment. I saw something on their website that they are planning to cap need-based loans at $2000.

Congrats! My son received his "early write" from Grinnell last year on Feb 26. This means you are the best and most exciting applicants, I think. We re-visited schools all over the country and he liked Grinnell the best!

I can't speak for travel expenses being covered, my preliminary award letter didn't really list that. On certain documents where they break down the cost of the school travel appears to be factored in, though. I suspect I'll have a small amount of money from my aid award to get me there in the Fall, even if I take it from other things, although I'll probably have to pay for a trip to the admitted students reception in April out of pocket. I'd imagine it would be the same for others.

As for notification, I received a phone call then an e-mail (I wasn't by my phone), and Pioneerweb shows "Congratulations! Welcome to the Class of 2012!" on top when I log in.

Grinnell has a very large monetary endowment (one of the largest of all LACs across the country) $30000 a year is an amazing scholarship to receive!

I was EDII. I don't think anyone RD would have notification for another month.

Also, I used to have admission status available (it said accepted and the term), but it looks like they've taken that down for all applicants (even those accepted) until RD notifications are out.

Hi! I got my acceptance letter today, with a $40k merit scholarship. Need-based is still left to be declared (I sent in my fin aid docs late). I was an RD candidate, but they applied early....

Wow wow wow, guys. Congratulations. They are still missing my materials

Same here, CradleOfFilth. I've had to fax practically half of my application to them because they lost the originals. If they for some reason lose/have lost my transcript, which was faxed but is still listed on my Pioneerweb as missing, I'm telling them to disregard my application altogether. I'm really fed up with Admissions right now.
