Same here, CradleOfFilth. I've had to fax practically half of my application to them because they lost the originals. If they for some reason lose/have lost my transcript, which was faxed but is still listed on my Pioneerweb as missing, I'm telling them to disregard my application altogether. I'm really fed up with Admissions right now.

Yep. Grinnell's Admissions team is not giving me a good impression of the school. No other school has asked me to send any missing materials but I had to fax everything to Grinnell and they also didn't receive my SAT report.

Aah, they are so irresponsible. Although they have my teacher evaluation. they don't have other materials which were sent in same package

My s got acceptance, with $15,000 merit aid.

Gaijale, you got $40,000 all merit?!? According to Grinnel's website, $15,000 is the max merit aid, although need based goes up as high as $40,000. If 15,000 is not really the max for merit, my s may try to negotiate. It's not being greedy. We really have a fairly low family income, but (for reasons not worth going into here) we don't qualify for need-based, so even with 15,000 aid it may not be affordable.

the pioneer web thing said that my ACT was missing for a long time--I called them and told them that I had it officially sent--they had it all along but they just did not have time to post it because they were busy with ED stuff at the time. I've called the admissions office a few times and they were nice

i got $40,000, but its for 4 years (so really just 10,000 per year)

I'm pretty sure $15K per year is max for merit.

so, when will those of us not so lucky find out?

^i know, right? i want to know if i got in!

i imagine grinnell will mail decisions in late march, early april

Duh. Right. $40,000 is over 4 years. I should've known that. Thanks for clarifying, rhowcow

yes, but someone said they recieved 30,000 a YEAR. hmmmm...

on a side note-- WHY ARE FLIGHTS TO IOWA SO EXPENSIVE??

Your friend probably got a need-based grant. D has a friend who got $24,000 need-based grant and $4,000 scholarship. Parent earned jointly under $100,000 and younger brother has autism (many expenses related to his care). If you are very middle class, colleges often supplement with need-based grants from their funds, even if you do not qualify for Pell (this girl did not) and if the EFC was well below the cost of attending Grinnell.

I got my RD early acceptance letter two days ago and a 15k per year merit scholarship! I'm excited, but I think I might wait until I hear from the other colleges I applied to before I make my final decision. (I'm from Chicago, btw- so it wouldn't be too hard for my family to drive there, but I feel the pain of all of you that have to fly!)

We've given up on flying from Chicago. The last 2 times we were intending to fly from O'Hare to Cedar Rapids, we had to rent a car and drive anyway. When we go next week, we're going to fly to O'Hare and drive from there. And btw, don't fly to Cedar Rapids, fly to Des Moines--there are a lot more shuttles and they're much cheaper.

Do you know if there are any good flights from Midway?

For people who have already received their letters:

As for my ECs, I am varsity captain of Scholastic Bowl, senior captain of Speech Team, and a committee chair of two commitees in National Honor Society. I'm only in three ECs this year, but they take up all my time. But I do really enjoy them!

My essay was pretty awesome- I actually got a letter from one of the deans of admission in January that said how much she enjoyed reading it. (It was rather unconventional, it was about how Rini (a Sailor Moon character) inspired me to be more confident and to never fear asking questions. )

Here;s my s's stats. He got admission, $15,000 per year, and very personal email about his essay.

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
Rank: 4/450
GPA 4.5 (or thereabouts) W. 3.9 (or thereabouts) UW

Misc.: A bunch of nerdy ECs, music, his sister is a student at Grinnell.

Yeah, I know, he's one smart kid! Waiting on replies from a couple of other schools, but Grinnell is a definite possibility.

^Amazing stats there. $15,000 merit based?

Yeah, I got 15k too. :)

m&m&m, those are damn fine stats! Wow! Did he apply to any Ivies or focusing on LACs?
