Everyone knows the Asian stereotype. You know, quite a bit nerdy with crazy-involved parents. However, I live in a moderately sized city/town in which the Asian population is none of things. My {Korean} mother, in all of her infinite wisdom, has gotten wind of a Korean church in Nashville that does contain "these types of Asians", as in Harvard undergrads and Vandy profs. :o

I know, I know, someone will be aghast at my enthusiasm at meeting a stereotype. But don't get me wrong; this is all in fun. I myself am half-Korean. How else am I supposed to get a taste of the Ivy League? Not here, definitely.

And it's always good to laugh before you die.

I love when ppl stereotype asians like that since I am asian and I'm completely different. I've attempted to play an instrument but hated it and when it came around to sports I absolutely loved it especially basketball which is not even remotely close to being known as an "asian" sport.

My parents are only worried about my school but they aren't crazy about it and I'm always the one who has to get applications to events, trips, experiences, etc... so my parents don't exactly fit into that chinese stereotype... and just in case you ppl out there are wondering i am a girl!!! :)

i know that... i was just saying that chinese ppl are known for sports more like badminton and ping pong... not basketball... unnless your Yao Ming! But really... how many Yao Mings are we ever gonna get in the world?

Snoopyiscool--Are you a David Bowie fan? Suffragette City is a tip-off that maybe you are. Or one of your parents, at least. I'm an old 60's-70's mom who long ago indoctrinated both of my girls (17 and 19) into the Bowie music culture.

Cecretcindy--Asians and Jews have similar, though not identical, stereotypes. Fortunately, as far as intelligence/academic success goes, those stereotypes tend to be very positive (for the most part). Smart, with a great work ethic, hey, I'm OK with that. My (Jewish) daughters are outstanding students and one is a drop-dead fantastic athlete (soccer).

Hindoo- Most definitely. My parents, not so much.

CecretCindy- My "stereotyping"? Of coure I know all Asians aren't like that; did you not noticec my statement about myself being Asian? I just found it interesting that it is now that I finally get to meet a 'seriously academic' Asian.

o icic, my bad... i'm seriously going to be so intimidated by those asians who study day and night so that they can go to some top-notch college... IRKS! I'm sure I'll be working my ass off like never before at my new school!!!

My school is like 75% asian (engineering school :( ) and although you would think most of them fit the stereotype (if not for any other reason but because its an engineering school) they don't. On paper you would think they fit that stereotype completely but in person, no way. Some of them are a few of the coolest people I have ever met. (The parents are very stereotypical though. I feel really bad for the kids. I asked a group of my friends why they weren't going to the spring fling and they replied "We have brown parents." I just feel so bad for all of you!!)
