I go to a casino instead of studying

Every weekend for the past month I have been going to the casino excessively. This all started a month ago when I won $1000 dollars one night, and since then, I think I have given all of it back plus extra. I am really stressed and this is eating me away. Today, I went to the casino and I lost $300 bucks, and last week I lost $400, and the week before that I lost $300 bucks. I can’t even keep track of how much am loosing every weekend. This is bad because this is the loan money for education that I am spending. I feel really stupid because I always give in to my friends when they ask me to go to the casino with them. I may have gambling problem here. Every week, I tell myself I will never go back to that evil place, but for some reason I do. It starts out when I tell myself that I will only spend twenty bucks and couple of ours latter, I leave empty handed. Good thing my checking account only lets me take out $300 limit a day. I feel sick because my plan was to catch up for my calc 2 class, which am like two chapters behind. God! I know the solution here is to never go back to the casino ever again, and I promised myself that today. Oh man, this sucks big time. I need to set priorities straight. No more mercy for that place.

Cool story bro.

Always stop once you win. Because even that was just dumb luck.

Drunks hang out with drunks. Druggies hang out with druggies.
Gamblers hang out with gamblers. They do this because it helps to justify or enable the addictive behavior. In short, get some new friends.

what game are you playing?

Make some friends who make money off of Wall Street.

Investing is thrilling; you can check your investments in class (along with facebook) and you can contribute to productive economic activity!

(Although right now I suggest buying bonds. Though bond prices are kind of high right now. You should have bought them 2 years ago.)

LOL buying bonds? What are you, 60?

If you’re bearish, just sell calls or buy puts or short or something. It’s almost guaranteed to be better than bonds.

Anyways, the OP, if its poker, just play tighter.

^wt.f you don’t have to be bearish to buy bonds…

Parent here, with a serious suggestion.

You are getting addicted and if you don’t address it, it will ruin your life. It’s already starting to, right?

See your counseling office and/or find a local chapter of Gamblers Anonymous. Do it NOW, before the problem becomes entrenched.

what kind of games are you playing?

No it wasn’t poker, i was was playing blackjack. I have no problem with making new friends, but my current friends are really important to me. They are the type I play poker with at home or go to parties with. And investing in the stock market, with the current economy, it seems like a bad Idea. I know alot of you suggested investing, but I just I feel like gaining a quick profit in one day is better than getting 7% gain over one year.

This is classic addict thinking. I’m begging you – get some help.

This is how all young Neopets players end up.

bonds…/me giggles

Hmm lets see, you certainly won’t have to beat the odds in order to get that 7% annual gain in the stock market, but playing blackjack, unless you are counting and are damn good at it, the odds are against you every hand, so in my opinion you would be extremely lucky to see only a 7% annual loss.

texas hold em > blackjack

Dude, blackjack is like the only game in the casino that’s beatable (and poker too). If you can’t count, then don’t play it. It’ll ruin your life like the other “games”.

The problem with card counting, even if you’re an MIT genius who can perform iterated operations in your head, is that some gang might break your knee caps if you get too good at it

The sobering thought is: even if you’re a remarkably talented player, casinos always have a failsafe option. Casino operators aren’t linked to organised crime for no reason. Almost every casino that exists is “protected” by some sort of armed gang or other.

You’ve been watching WAY too many movies. They will just tell you to leave; they won’t get physical. And besides, if they do get physical in today’s day and age, it’s just begging for a lawsuit.

OP: Get some help. Maybe you should put your debit card in a very inconvenient place. Like hide it somewhere it would take you a while to get. Maybe that will help. But I would really follow the links LasMa posted.

you guys really are dumb thinking blackjack is beatable…that game has a massive house edge. (they use >5 combined decks…you can’t count, this isnt the 80s)

poker is the only game that is beatable, and that is only if you study the game…(ie. read lots of poker forum and read books)
its a hobby of mine. (and yes there are people out there who have lived off steady poker income for at least a decade)
