I got a 9 on SAT essay, is that too low for Ivys?

Overall I got 710 on writing, but for the essay I blanked like about half a page some more and didn't have any time to check errors...My other two scores are okay I think..(CR730, M770)

Should I retake SAT in December to increase my essay score because I felt it was a real blemish for me??

Thanks for any advice!!!

Your score is almost exactly mine, except I got a 10 essay and a 720 in W.

Hi, twin!

9 on essay but 800 on writing for me :p

retake a whole sat, 4 hours, $45 just to see if you can bring your essay score up a few points when everything else went fine to me is a COMPLETE waste of time and money. Sure, you could have done better on the essay, but on the SAT you will always not do as well on SOME part as you could have.

I don’t think schools consider the SAT essay much. In fact, no one cares about your SAT essay, and 9 is not a bad score at all. If you’re content with your composite, it would a complete waste of time to retake the SAT.

Same question. I got a 7 and a 68, for a total score of 640 (I took 2060)

Although I’m an intl student, do you think this essay score will hurt me?

You certainly won’t bleed.

Most schools are mainly interested in the math and critical reading scores. But it’s really your choice. If it’s bugging you, do it.

You’ll find that most schools you’re looking at not only weigh the writing section less than the other two sections but also disregard the essay.

I’m the complete opposite.

I got a 12 on the essay and 590 overall (MC 51)…

Seriously the SAT essay is the easiest part of the SAT to improve. In June I took the test and got a 8 and in October I got a 12.

You only need ONE thing to get a 12 on the essay.

A thread here on CC has a guide to a 12 on the essay. It’s something like “12 on SAT essay in 10 days”, search it on google or something.

At first I really didn’t believe that I could get a 12. I was expecting a 10 at least but I ended up with the 12.

PS: One thing I disagree about the essay guide is that he mentions that you need to prepare 25 examples for the essay, really all you need is 3-4.

Hope this helps.

thanks everybody, I’ll definately work on my application essays before making a retake decision…

Thanks for all advice!

@Djokovic go curve!!!

Doesn’t Dartmouth use the essay for admissions?
