Failed my SAT Essay but got a 1530...Should I retake the SAT?

I am planning on applying to some competitive schools such as Stanford and MIT. I got an 880 on math and a 38 on reading and a 35 on writing&language. But on the SAT essay, I got a 5+2+2=12 points; mainly because I forgot to include any textual quotations. I have already taken my SAT subject tests with both perfect 800s. So, in your opinion, is it worth it to retake the entire SAT with the essay to improve my SAT Essay score, or do colleges not really care?

I got 1579 and I also failed my essay;; I think you should retake it because your SAT score is not good anyway. colleges really care about the essay score and I got 24 before which I can use it to superstore my essay score! you should definitely try again if you are aiming for Ivy leagues

If you can write an essay on how you get 1579 in SAT, you probably can get into any Ivy as it has never been done before.

Yeah, I agree, I will retake it, thx for the feedback!

The essay does not matter - horrible advice being given here by the person who got a 1579 (LOL) on the SAT.

How do you fail the essay?

i think this is a bogus thread. How do you get a 880 on math? Isn’t the highest an 800 …the whole intital post is confusing.

We’re all talking about the 1579 on the SAT but how about that 880 in Math though!

Those probably are just typo. my kid got 800/800 with one wrong in reading and one wrong in writing and language. but completely failed on essay with 5/2/5, you may round it up to 4 over 8 but to me is like 3 over 8. I’d like him to retake it but he refuses. Though the schools he’s going to apply doesn’t require essay, but I still think this would hurt his chance to get merit scholarship, right?

sorry typo it’s 4/2/5 not 5/2/5

you cant get a 1579 or an 880

I don’t think the essays matter that much.

Whether or not the essay matters depends on the schools. Many Ivies and Stanford require it. Most other schools do not. I am wondering if this round was particularly difficult or something, since I am in the exact (almost) situation. Near perfect verbal, perfect math, and a wretched essay score. Again, it depends on the school you are considering. And I know you can superscore the math / verbal, but many schools will not let you superscore the essay.

This is exactly why I had S19 take the test without the essay. He doesn’t need it for his schools so I didn’t have him prep and I didn’t want the score to look bad if he bombed it.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Closing thread. There may be innocent typos here, but it makes it too confusing.

Neither is possible
