I got a b

thank you thank you all very much!

One B won’t hurt you at all. Just don’t get too many of them :)

Grades in 8th grade don’t count at all.

Stay off CC for a couple of years - you ARE too young to worry about this stuff. Just work hard and keep swimming!

At least at my school, you don’t have to send accelerated math credits that you took before HS to colleges. If you can opt out of sending that grade, do so. Colleges don’t really care about middle school grades much either, so it only matters if it transfers to your HS transcript.

That being said, one b won’t rule you out for any schools. If you get recruited as an athlete, your gpa can usually be lower than the schools average. Either way, one b won’t kill you. You’re pretty young to be worrying about this.

“Grades in 8th grade don’t count at all”

Actually, they can if they are high school credits which the OP’s class was. My D has grades from 6th grade on her HS transcript.

^Yeah. Usually you have a choice whether or not to count them though. They CAN count if they’re high school level courses (Honors Geometry is supposed to be a sophomore class at my school, so if you took it in 8th grade you’d have the option to put it on your transcript). But again, usually you get to choose whether or not to count it. General rule of thumb for my school was “if it’s not an A, don’t count it.”

But if this B will just show up on your middle school transcript, then it really is no big deal. Colleges aren’t going to care if you got one “check minus” in fifth grade, just as they won’t really care if you got a B in middle school.

^^ In our school system you have a choice of retaking the class if you were in middle school and replacing the grade, but it has to go on your transcript. I think the original class also shows up on your transcript, just with a blank next to the grade but I am not sure about that.

^Really? That’s bizarre, or maybe it’s my school that’s bizarre. I’m not sure what would show up on my school’s transcript. I got an A- in my 8th grade math class and chose not to count it and nothing showed up on my transcript…

Well my view is that re-taking (unless you failed or something) is kind of like taking the easy way out. If you’ve already taken the class then taking it again would be really easy. So OP I guess it’d depend on how your school is. I wouldn’t retake the class if that’s an option.

And OP you’re too young to worry about this too! Give it a few years. I didn’t start thinking about it until junior year.
