I got a bad grade, did I ruin my chances for college?

I got a bad grade (D+) first semester of my sophomore year of high school in math and I can't stop freaking out about it. It wasn't that I didn't try; the teaching style was ridiculously hard to follow as he only went over the vocabulary of the math he was teaching and expected us to know how to do it from there. And no, it was not the classic "blame the teacher" act. I'm sure he's good for others, but not for me. I was also out of class for awhile due to personal circumstances, and when came back and asked him for help/get help to make sure my grade was okay, he always told me the same thing about vocab and that I was fine. Towards the end of the semester he was away and we had a substitute who I did remarkably better with, and without her being there I probably would have gotten a way lower grade, even though the one I ended up with is nothing to be happy about.

**I also tried to get a different teacher the beginning of the semester, but my counselor didn't allow it.

My first semester grades were:

AP World: A
English II Honors: A
Geo. Math: D
Biology H: A
Foreign Language: A

Second semester:

AP World: A
English II Honors: A
Geo. Math: B+ *(Different teacher)
Biology: A
Foreign Language: A

I want to major in Biochemistry, but don't know how much one bad grade will hurt me. I plan on taking all, or most, AP classes junior and senior year, as well as various extracurricular activities that I have already participated in. Please help!

Colleges have different entrance requirements, so you’ll find the right match. Keep your GPA on an upward trend and you’ll be fine.

As long as you keep up good grades it wont ruin your chances. you could also explain to colleges why that grade was really low if you had something going on at home or something
