I got a d+ in precalc

I’m a junior with a 3.1 GPA but a 3.9 GPA weighted. However, my school weights GPA pretty harsh, like an A- is a 3.7. I always got a’s and b’s throughout high school but this year I got a D+ in precalculus for the semester and I will probably be getting a c- this one. I know. It sucks. I got two C’s first semester in physics and brit lit but now I have b’s in both of those classes. All of my classes are honors and AP’s.
AP Psychology
AP Brit Lit
AP European history
Honors forensics
Honors spanish 5
Honors physics

I got a 2200 on my SAT and if I do extremely well my first semester of senior year where do I stand? U Wash is definitely one of my top choices.

I think UW values grade point average considerably more than test scores (even though a 2200 is quite impressive).

A- being 3.7 is normal isn’t it?
3.9 weighted GPA does not matter to UW only your 3.1 unweighted GPA does.
That 2200 is pretty darn impressive though.
Doing well first semester depends as you have to finish that semester first…
Will your first semester be done by the end of December or no?

Yeah. 3.7 is around a 92% at the average high school.

A 3.1 is dealbreaking-ly low, so I would try to bring that up if possible. It’s fairly below their average accepted GPA of 3.76 (which is unweighted). Admissions is not an exact science at a school like UW, but they only value your story over numbers to a certain extent.

Like YoonMiRae said, UW won’t even look at your weighted GPA. It’s often inflated and is hard to use to analyze someone’s academic resume. When I visited UW last year, the admissions counselor told me that they re-calculate everything to the regular 4.0 scale and discount what she called “fluff” courses like art, shop, theatre, etc to level the analysis of all of the students. Colleges admire a rigorous schedule, but digging yourself into a hole by taking classes you can’t keep up with is different than that.

Try to pull that 3.1 up, and you should have a good shot.

yes it will be

My daughter got in with a 3.11 GPA and a 1900 SAT. We don’t know what her weighted grade would be because her school doesn’t weight grades. She had a ton of extracurriculars, and they looked at her overall achievements, rather than just her GPA.

Like LadyArwyn says though. While GPA is important you should still remember your application is looked at holistically. So if your grades aren’t the highest it would probably be best to be very involved etc.

My daughter got waitlisted this year.
3.74 unweighted GPA

She is an incredible writer and her essay seemed very strong.
Got accepted at colleges with much lower acceptance rates.

She was heartbroken

@ themom2019 - did she appeal? I’ve heard those who appeal have a pretty good chance of getting in.

@LadyArwyn , according to the website, around 1 in 20 appeals are accepted.

You should address why you are having so much trouble. You are very bright. Are you working hard enough? Be honest! Are you taking advantage of study sessions and teacher tutoring sessions?

Have you changed schools to a much harder school where you are behind?

Could you have some sort of learning disability, like ADHD or Dyslexia? Believe it or not, really smart people can cope with these issues for years and then hit a wall as the material gets harder. One of my kids is like this.
