Hi! I originally committed on going to Case Western reserve with a $500 deposit and 40k a year tuition. Today I got an offer of admission from CMU, with 24 hours to respond. It’s a $800 deposit and 50k a year in tuition. I plan on majoring in Engineering. CMU is much better in Engineering rankings but I have to pay 10k more a year. What should I do???
Congratulations.
Can/will your family pay the extra $10K without burden?
I doubt 10k is too much, but the problem is is 10k worth it. Is CMU a worthy 10k over Case
If it’s affordable, and you feel a good fit with CMU (program, major, campus, vibe, etc.) I would say yes, $10K is worth it over CWRU. But if CWRU is the better fit stay there and don’t look back.
Compare the plans of study, and determine which one is better for you.
Compare the campus cultures, and determine which one is better for you.
If you still want to do it commit to getting a summer internship which generally pay between $9K - $12K for the summer and you cover the difference so it is net neutral for your parents.
That sounds like a good idea! Thanks!
