I got caught for stealing something in my high school...

What do colleges/universities think of theft? I stole something in my school and I got caught and I got in trouble. It wasn't legal, it was only in the school. I'm not even sure if this will go on my transcript or not but if it does, will they not accept me? I'm only a sophomore so maybe I can improve. But what do you guys think? I planned to apply to Texas and Tenessee but maybe they wont take me anymore :(

“Only”? The first step is to accept full responsibility that what you did was wrong, regardless of whether you got into trouble with the law. Don’t try to minimize or justify it. If you haven’t already, go apologize to whomever you stole from.

Were you officially disciplined, as in suspended, made to go to Saturday school, etc? If so, ask your GC if it’s on the record that will be provided to colleges.

But even if colleges receive the info, one infraction in sophomore year probably won’t hurt you IF nothing like this happens again. Stay out of further trouble from this day forward, both on campus and off!

okay first of all, yeah accept responsibility, but there’s no such thing as something like theft being legal because it was done within a school. Your school is simply not taking the law into consideration here and only punishing you themselves. Don’t think you live in a bubble.

I got a saturday school.

Then ask your GC what disciplinary information will be provided to colleges when the time comes. But again, the main thing is to make sure you stay out of trouble from now on. If this truly was a one-time infraction, colleges will be much more forgiving. If it looks like a pattern, that’s going to be a much bigger problem for you.

Well then colleges better hide their stuff when you visit or their **** will get copped.

Start an anti-theft campaign

I agree with alex7594

turn it from a weak to a strong point in your application.

make a club, awareness campaign, etc. to combat theft and demonstrate how you have grown from the experience.

and stop stealing? yeahhh
