What was your safety school?

UIUC
i guess i was way too optimistic
I knew few of my friends who got in with stats much lower than mine
so I thought I would get in for sure.

anyone else?
I welcome any comments

As a sophomore at Yale whose safety was also u of i (but got accepted) here’s some words of wisdom:

If your life sucks…It’s probably cuz you suck

thanx bro
anymore words of wisdom?

Sorry to hear that but I think you will still get in. Don’t forget to send them any updates to your profile (awards, grades etc). I don’t know if it is too late to send out apps for any of these schools or even if you are interested but Georgia Tech, Richmond and Tulane all have applications due dates of Jan 15. Other good schools to look at are Gettysburg (Feb 15) Wisconsin (Feb 1st) and UPitt (no deadline) . Good luck!

thanx for the comment
anyone else?

bump bump
I’ll appreciate any comment

UIUC deferred something like 75% percent of its priority applicants, the most frequent explanation I’ve heard being that they just had too many to read and genuinely consider within that short time frame. With your stats, I wouldn’t worry too much - you’re likely to get accepted later on. If you’re still nervous, maybe look at Purdue.

I’m sure Yale is glad to have you, dan. <_>

Anyway…I’m sorry for what happened. :[ But like phantasmagorical said, you have great stats, and you will probably get accepted into your other schools. The UIUC thing was probably a freak accident.

I’m adding other stats

I know all of these are mediocre and bad but just so that you guys have a better idea..

Thanks and I’ll appreciate more comments

Those aren’t mediocre OR bad! But from my knowledge of the admissions process, they like to look at things you are passionate about and show leadership in. So for that Young liberals club position–do you really enjoy having it? What do you like to do that you’re really skilled in and show leadership in?

Im assuming they realized you were using them as a safety (as in WAY OVERQUALIFIED) …and want to see if you will accept a spot on the wait list (showing genuine interest)…there is no other way to explain this …unless one of your recs wrote something potentially negative about you…

Im sure youll get in to some of your other top choices

good luck

thanks everyone
it’s really encouraging.
I mean, rejection from high reach school plus a deferral letter from my safety school at the same day was just too much :(

bump bump bump

do college searches at any of the following sites:

collegeboard.com

collegedata.com

They will all give you a list which, to varying degrees of accuracy, will tell you schools that match your stats and preferences. Princeton Review seems to be the most optimistic so you may want to temper their “matches” with what you see on the college board and college data sites. There is a school out there for you. Don’t loose heart!

Thanks for the advice
but usually the best you can get out of these sites are where you fit with my GPA and SAT… or maybe I didn’t look too hard. But anyways it seems beyond that, I’m not sure where I might fit into.. . any advice?

You can use these sites as a starting point re where you fit in, then it is up to you to check out their wesites or read more of the profiles listed on the websites that generated the list in the first place. Free student review for many campuses are available at campusdirt.com and if you want to pay for the lowdown there is always c0llegepr0wler.com or USNWR.

But, you are burning daylight. Get on it and start searching. Find a couple more safeties where you feel you’d be happy and get those apps in.
