I got deferred from NC State--What are my chances?

Recently I was deferred from North Carolina State University until final review in March. I was really shocked at first because my first choice major was Meteorology, one that I thought was not very competitive. I now have come to find out that during the release of the first round decisions the University focuses on the numbers (GPA, SAT/ACT). Is this true?

I thought my scores and averages were good enough to get me in the first round of decisions:
GPA Weighted: 4.5
GPA Unweighted: 3.79
SAT: 1210/1600

With these numbers in mind, do you think I have a good chance of getting into NC State during the final decision in March?

I would guess it was your SAT that hurt you. Most people that got in had higher than 1300. I think you’d get in this round but really don’t know. Good luck.

Keep working on improving the SAT, but on a personal level, just know that the SAT is an imperfect predictor of college success. My daughter had a 930 on the SAT, yet graduated cum laude in 3 1/2 years from WCU Honors College with a BFA in Graphic Design. Sometimes, what matters is how much grit you show…

Thank you for the advice!
