I got in... but a little disappointed.

My daughter's first choice is SCU. She received (initially) a $6000 SCU grant as her finaid. We are not anticipating that she will get a nickel more. She honestly feels they just don't want her. Still...we will go for the accepted student's overnight, and talk to finaid while there. To be honest, of the schools to which she has been accepted, SCU is probably the best for her...size, location, courses of study, music ops for non-majors....everything. However, since her acceptance she has heard precious little from them (she got accepted in December EA) and wonders if they have just forgotten about her. Sad for a student who had their school as #1.

Did you submit the FAFSA & everything? They're supposed to be sending out FAid packages within the week or so. You can call their FAid office & see where they are in evaluating your D's package & that might help.
My S was accepted in late February. Received the acceptance in a large envelope. Recently, he received a booklet on housing options. Yesterday, he received an invitation to the Honors College. That's been all he got.
It's still the most he's received from the schools, since 4 of his other schools still haven't sent ANY decision. USoCal sent a nice packet with the acceptance, but will be letting us know about any merit aid in about a week or so.
$6000 is still $6000 that doesn't have to be repaid. Hope your daughter gets more attention from SCU & decides what school is best for her.

DD was accepted EA to SCU. Our Profile was submitted by November 15 priority deadline and FAFSA by Jan 1. Both were amended Feb 1. She got her finaid estimate in mid February, that was the one with the 6K SCU grant. I spoke with finaid last week, and they did say the final awards were being done. We suspect her finaid will go DOWN because our estimated AGI was $3000 less than our actual. This happened at USD...her USD grant was reduced from $11900 to $9600. So....we aren't holding out much hope. DD is a very strong student...top 5% of her class. But her SAT CR/Math was 1230. Don't let ANYONE tell you that the SAT scores "don't carry much weight". That is simply BS.

I am not sure that my award was based on need as I never filled out a fafsa or even applied for aid; I was planning on paying the full tuition (assuming I don't get into USC)

Just to let those waiting on that final aid letter, We got ours today. No changes to it, good news I guess. Still its a ton of $$$$ over 4 years.
Good luck to all. Oh, son finally heard from Lewis and Clark. This was a school we thought he had a good chance at, he was waitlisted. Good that he got into one of the two he really wanted to get into. So he is happy.
Best wishes to all who are waiting to hear from Faid office.

This is so weird. I applied to SCU as a safety and got accepted on the same day that I got into USD- my stats are fairly strong (mid 2100s and 3.7 gpa), so I was surprised when I was not offered admission to the Honors program or given a scholarship. USD gave me their largest scholarship.
I just checked my financial aid a moment ago. It's all paid for. Like, more than 43 thousand dollars a year in grants and loans. I know that loans are just loans, but I was stunned that I could go for that little money.

My father makes a great deal of money, but he's in the middle of a divorce and his former wife is handicapped and unable to support herself. I would think that had something to do with it, but I never told them that. Also, my average aid has been 20,000, not such a large sum.

I got a 2110 on the SAT, have a high GPA, good EC's, but was not offered honors program or scholarships. I recieved honors and a full scholarship to another school (emerson), and also got half from USC.

i think they know if "overachievers" are using them as a safety, because our third ranked student in my class was rejected from SCU.

it made my parents mad though, as it is where they want me to go.

Zelda, why haven't you posted your "half from USC" on the USC board? That must be Presidential, right? Congratulations to you!!

How did you learn about your 1/2 tuition on USC? My child is the opposite. He was awarded 1/2 tuition at SCU engineering + honors college but so far hasn't heard anything from USC about merit aid & is still waiting (tho admitted to USC engineering). He only got the letter saying that he wasn't in the running at USC for the full-tuition scholarship.

i got a half schlorship (provost) to scu plus the $2,000 for getting into the scu honors program. i haven't heard anything from usc though...has everyone received their letters already?

My son got into USC engineering but didn't receive any award letter, so I called them & the school of engineering & they said that as long as he designates USC as his 1st choice with the CBoard as a NMF by CB's deadline, he will get 1/2 tuition scholarship.
