"I got in without taking any AP/IB classes!"

Post what top schools you were accepted to without having any AP/IB classes on your transcript (even if such classes were offered at your school!) Just curious :)

…Lol, I love how this thread has no replies. Very telling.

I’m curious though too! I hope someone can say that it happened to them.

these stats from lowly UCLA on % admit with the listed # of AP/IB/Approved +1 Honors for 10-12th grades:

20+ semesters: 45% admit rate
16-19: 27%
12-15: 14%

the overall admit rate was 21.4%

see the pattern? If you don’t take (available) college level courses at 17 and 18, why would you want to take them when you’re 19?

^ because you are older, more mature and ready for the next step. The better question would be, why the need and push for high school age kids to take college level courses. IMO, it’s gotten way out of hand.

I just didn’t feel much need to talk college level classes since it was high school. I’ve done well in HONORS classes though…

Unfortunately my school didn’t offer many AP courses. Only really offered Calculus I (AB), English, languages, and now just this year Calc II (BC).

Out of these I only took Calc I and now Calc II, and I’m taking the BC exam this year.

Although I certainly encourage challenging yourself and taking these classes, there are a few students in my calc class that do NOT have the work ethic and right state of mind to handle college level courses at a high-ranked university.

IMO, some people blow the importance of these classes way out of hand though.

1) Most require pre-requisite courses. Unless your pushy parent (which I highly despise the concept of) plans out your whole high-school schedule before 9th grade, you may not even be eligible for some AP courses.

2) Not everyone is interested in taking the extra steps to take AP classes in high-school. For instance, I never took honors english classes, and henceforth I have not taken AP English. As a student interested in Engineering and Mathematics, I do not take much interest in analyzing literature (90% of the High-school English curriculum).

There are more examples and points to make, but I guess I should get back to filling out scholarship applications…

Thanks for the comments. The reason I started this thread was because I was accepted to Pepperdine and it has been rare to see another accepted student that did not take any APs throughout high school :stuck_out_tongue: The only real issue i’ve had is with class rank. I’m RIGHT behind all of the AP nerds ;)

Zero AP, got into UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCI, NYU. 5 for 5. Waiting on Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia, and Brown.

incognito123 – any hooks, athletic or otherwise? Did your school not offer them? I think kids from schools that don’t offer many APs get a free pass :)

That’s amazing incognito! Congrats on that. Does your school offer AP?
