You are awarded a max. total of 5000 points (+250 bonus if you live in the school's local-defined area), derived mainly from GPA and test scores (test scores can count anywhere from 1/4 to 1/3 of the final point total depending on your major), though a small chunk is taken from ECs (not sure on how much, exactly).

I have heard that your application is checked thoroughly twice before a decision is made.

4 questions are taken for ECs and work experience:

[quote]
1. Average number of hours worked per week over the most recent 12 months?
2. Was more than 25% of your work related to your Cal Poly choice of major? (yes or no)
3. Average number of hours per week involved in community service, arts, clubs, and other extra-curricular activities during the last 12 months?
4. Do you hold or have you held any leadership positions in the activities from question #3 (examples include Senior Class President, Yearbook Editor, etc.)?

a couple more regarding class rank, valedictorian status, and National Merit finalist status

In the end, it's pretty much all objective.

I got all A's in science and math courses, and took summer school every year to take more math classes. My grades in other subject areas are horrible. I got a 710 on math. I guess I am just lucky....

yea, its up....i can't find the link right now...but i know that they admitted more people and the averages for all majors went down a little bit...i know a lot of people who got in that didn't think they would get in....i'll post the link for "The Profile 2005" when i find it

I posted a thread here a while back regarding the release of the 2005 admit stats... just do some searching in this forum.

Because of the larger number of available student spaces this year, they were able to accept more people..... however some colleges (e.g. engineering) accepted a lower percentage than last year - as usual, they only expect about 30-35% of the acceptees to matriculate.

did you apply early decision or regular decision. Did you get the results by mail? My son has applied to Architecture also. We are from Pennsylvania. Can you please let me know how you found out?

I applied early decision. A few weeks after the ED deadline, I was sent informantion telling me how to access a my.calpoly website. This is a personalized site allowing you to view your admission status anytime. When they select people, they post it on this site and then e-mail you. Regular mail comes later.

Early decision was supposed to find out the 15th of December but due to an "unexpected delay" they have extended the deadline to the end of this month.

breakaway: Did you apply early acceptance or early decision to calpoly? How did you get to see your acceptance into Calpoly? My son has also applied to the program, I would like to know how you find out your acceptance into Calpoly.
