We got our yearbooks today, and I must say that many of us are extremely upset with the yearbook staff. They quoted several people, without actually interviewing them. And I was one of them.

I'm the president of the fashion club, and on the fashion club page under a picture it says this, a "quote" from me:

"It's been an amazing experience seeing so many people interested in what they wear," said (insert my name.) "I can't wait for the recruiting process in May. We're hoping for a full crew next year, and we might even sponsor a school wide fashion show."

One problem, I NEVER SAID ANY OF THAT. And there has been NO talk of a fashion show next year. I couldn't believe it when I read this. Them doing this made me feel like our club isn't "worthy" enough to be officially interviewed.

..Who do these yearbook people think they are, misquoting people because they're too lazy to actually go interview people?

Yeah? But I don’t like the fact that people are pretending to be me.

And now because these morons were too lazy to come talk to us, we’re going to get pressured into hosting a stupid fashion show that none of us want to host.

Don’t worry about it! If anyone asks about the upcoming fashion show, just tell them that the Yearbook staff made up that quote and that you never intended for there to be a fashion show.

no, it’s not okay.
send an e-mail to the yearbook ADVISER (not staff)
it’s not even a “misquote” since you were not quoted to begin with-- it’s worse!!!

my school does this all the time as well. once they quoted me for a competition saying something like, “we all got along really well and the competition went very smoothly. it was a great team building exercise.”

when i read it, i was like w t f i never said that. but then i realized i that d g a f

I’m actually in yearbook this year at my school. Personally, I take the time to interview everyone for my stories, but we are often on a tight schedule. For my particular school, we have to have a quote for every single picture, so that means alot of interviewing. Now what happens when its deadline day and a person A needs a quote for a picture. But one problem, person A is in baseball and at an away game 1 hour off?

but in my school’s case, we only had 10 people in the class, because 6 people had dropped out, so we each had to carry somewhat of a heavy load. But IMO, some of the deadlines are ridiculous, one of them , I had 3 weeks to write/interview/take photos/captions/put it together on adobe indesign for 2 different topics.

yearbooks take FOREVER to finish, right now the tiny yrbook staff at my school is trying to finish the 300 pages in the next 2 days, in the middle of IB exams, cuz throughout the yr EVERYONE drops out slowly.
And its not like they misquoted you saying something negative, if you’re really annoyed by it, go speak to them and when people ask you about the fashion show, just say you didnt say that and were misquoted, just don’t make a big deal about it, they can’t take back the yearbooks and correct it for you

Getting my name spelled wrong on everything is part of my life. It’s French so a lot of people add/remove letters and almost everyone messes up on capitalization. For all of my sister’s life until she went to college, she was in the same year as a girl who’s name has the same beginning as ours but a different ending and her name has a space in it while ours doesn’t. So their names would get switched around all the time. Get over names.

Heh, I remember when I did yearbook back when I was in high school. We had a staff of something like 8 people to cover our school of 2100 students. Oh, and there was no class, we were only allowed to work on it after school. Heh, I remember doing the entire faculty section and about half the sophomores. They didn’t even give me a free copy, just $20 off.

As an editor from a yearbook staff (not your school though, our school actually had a fashion show), I have to say that what they did is actually illegal.
I don’t know about your school’s yearbook staff, but for ours, a mandatory contract (where falsifying quotes is punishable by law) must be signed by all staff members before they can work on the yearbook.

Yeah, after realizing all the hard work done this year, I get mad at people when they say they wont buy a yearbook because it is $100. I would honestly pay $500 for it, knowing how much work and time it took to make the freaking book. Yet, I signed up for it again.=P

Hey, at least your freaking picture wasn’t missing like mine was sophomore year. (save a small soccer picture and an even smaller band picture). ■■■
