I Got My Tentative Financial Aid Letter!!!!

Yeah kind of obnoxious for likelies to panick about when they'll get their EFC when others arent even accepted yet.

That said, when am I getting MY EFC?????

Chill out unlikelies, likely letters are just a SAT trap, your personal qualities will come out when they actually begin READING the apps rather than running them through a stats machine.

someones bitter about not getting a likely letter. im pretty sure they have read more than basic stats before sending the letters.

I'm convinced they do it like this: separate apps by SAT and URM criteria. Then they read the high SAT and URM ones first, and without the same level of scrutiny they will read later applications that dont have the SAT to justify a likely letter.

A few short questions for those who recieved tenative financial aid:

1.) Did you apply ED, or regular and got a likely letter?

2.) If you recieved a likely letter, which "wave" (approximate date) did you recieve it?

3.) What is your approximate location relative to Dartmouth (mail to Lebannon, New Hampshire will arrive sooner than that to Alaska)?

4.) If possible, what was the postmark?

5.) At what time did you submit financial aid forms, and have you already sent in 2004 taxes more than one week ago?

Thanks a bunch. I'm just trying to narrow down the possibilities for everyone else so we can try to figure out what's happening.

First Wave (dated Feb 11th but recieved it on Valentine's Day :))

I live in Los Angeles (South Central aka Tha Hood)
I had to look on the map to find New Hampshire! Naw, just kidding; I know all the states without using a map!

I have been like a robot when it comes to all of these forms we have to send. Usually my mom does her taxes in late March, but this year I put a lot of pressure on her to get her stuff done by the end of Jan. That's what she did so I mailed off my tax info for all 20 schools I applied to on Jan 29th.

I know you didn't ask for this, but I submitted my Common App to all of the schools EARLY compared to other people (November 8th) so maybe they just saw my application first before they could rip it to shreds....;)

Sean,

Each application is read twice. Based on the applications there will be students who will be automatic admits, others will be automatic rejections. Many will go to committee where the your regional rep will state your case and a vote is taken. All admits must be approved by Karl Furstenburg.

Since ED students have committed toattend Dartmouth and have probably sent in their intent to enroll already they have recieved z tentative financial aid package with their ED admission. A finalized package would be sent out on april 1.

Likely letters are not an SAT Trap as these people have gone through the admissions process and the admissions committee has "unofficially' offered them admissions into the class of 09.

It is my take that the last set of likely letters would be mailed out this friday as the admission process would be winding up. At that point with 2 weeks until the first, financial aid packages have to be wrapped up, admissions packets would have to be put together (labot intensive to hand collate all papework, insert into folders, stuff into envelopes) distibution list have to be set up, one for admitted students, one for studnets who have been rejected one for waitlisted students. passwords and log-ins would have tobe assigned for admitted so that they could log into the Dartmouth discussion board.

Sean,

I am sorry, I meat to direct my comments to Dadaist2 regarding his statment
