:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

We unlikelies sure don't like threads like these...

I got a financial aid letter too, pretty good grant, but I have to take on a loan.

What about the rest of the Greenies!

wow, talk about a full court press, this is a big change from last year. Giving you a tentative package so that lot to think about

My tenative package def. made Dartmouth lose a few points in stock. I'm sorry, but I can go to Umich or Wash U for a WHOLE lot less. I hope when I'm at Dimensions, I can work the fin aid office to reevaluate my package. There is just too big a differance.

My fams EFC came out to 20K+. I can go to Michigan for 7K a year, or even less, depending on other scholarships. There is just no way I can justify paying a full 13K a year more for college, no matter how much I love D

Oh me...Oh my

Full court press is right; it's really nice for those students (and that's most of us) who are worried about both admissions and financial aid.

Too bad I won't see one cent from that financial aid office. I guess need-based aid is the right idea, but this is like buying a really nice Lexus each year, which is not something that even families which make well over 200K a year would do. Unless you're wildly wealthy, everyone gets somewhat squeezed.

Joey

Dartmouth grows and grows as my top choice....so much love. They sent me that likely letter (even when they didn't have to), now i'm getting an all-expenses paid trip to Dartmouth even though I haven't decided on the school yet. Now they are giving me a preview of my fin aid package. Sounds corny, but I really appreciate that. :)

makes hissing sound

my fin aid package did really suck

KB, I would suggest waiting until you get your Wash U package (as their cost of attendance is more in line with Dartmouth's) and then asking the financial aid office for a financial review (but you must have to show Dartmouth a copy of the package)
If your Wash U package is for 4 years and not merit based, asked if it cam be met.

Personally, I don't think that you will ge t much leverage using your UMich package because it is a public school where you are an in-state resident. If you don't tr, you'lll never know

Wait a second, Calidan didn't get a likely letter?

kb54010: there will be kids on the waitlist hoping you go to UMich or WashU.
So everyone will be happy.

King: yeah, I thought calidan had a likely.

calidan, what up?

No, syb, I'm out of state at UMich...I got 80K in merit-aid, along with a possible room and board scholarship. Along with my outside scholarship aid, Michigan would be virtually free.

I'm a finalist for a full-tutition scholarship at WashU as well. If I do get it (chances remote),I think it would be very unlikey that Dartmouth could compete.

But despite at all...my heart is in Hanover.

But to save 80K over four years, I may have to drag my heart somewhere else.

Does your full tuition also include room and board or just tuition. I am here to tell you D got a better package from Williams last year and Dartmouth met the Williams package

No room and board, but if I were to win it (note the use of the conditional), it would make WashU nearly 10K cheaper out of pocket.

king and joemama- no, I didn't get a likely letter. :(

Thanks (I guess) for thinking I got one(?)

Maybe I still can get one... unless they're done sending them out.

I guess I act so Dartmouthly optimistic that it seems like I got one lol :o

You can't really compare how much you would pay at a huge school like UMich to how much you would pay at Dartmouth. Private schools have a lot of benefits over large schools, but cost is not one of them.

Deciding between a free ride to a big state school and $20,000 a year at a small elite school is a tough decision. I'm in the same position. Many of us are.

If you go for the state school, UMich looks like the better choice.

calidan: even though you've spent tons of time on the D thread, you're a Brown guy , right?
