I have gotten rejected from Northwestern ED Medill, Tulane, Wellesley "unlikely", and today uchicago (which was my all time favorite choice) and mount Holyoke. The only place I got accepted so far was DePaul in Chicago which was my safety and they gave me 18,000 per year merit scholarship. I still have to hear back from Bryn Mawr, Barnard, Smith, Umass, and USC. Does it not look to promising? I had an interview for Bryn Mawr which I thought went well (It lasted nearly an hour with an alumna). Also a smith alumna who volunteers with african american admissions reached out to me for an interview (I didn;t even ask the college for an interview), and this interview went abosolutely great! It lasted an hour and a half, and she said she would really advocate for me and explain some challenges I had to go through in her evaluation of me. I also had an overnight at Smith which went very well, and one of the organizations that I am chapter president of at my school, has a chapter at Smith, and I had mentioned wanting to keep up with it in college, and that I have been in contact/collaboration with the members of the smith chapter. I also had an alumna interview for Barnard, in which she said that my inquisitiveness made quite an effect on her, and that she was impressed by me. I had also mentioned in my essays and to my Barnard interviewer that it was my first choice. (I also said this to my smith interviewer as well that smith was my first choice. These two colleges are tied for my first choice). I am also a minority (biracial, but on the common app I checked off "black" but explained I was biracial in my common app essay). I just honestly don't know what to expect anymore in terms of decisions. (I'm not going to post my stats, because it is WAY too long, and you can probably find them somewhere on CC)

Might be easier if you posted a link to a post with your stats rather than asking posters to read though 200 or so posts to find them

good job, momof3!! Did you find a post that shows the SAT Oct retake scores?

@jym626 I did not do that well on the OCT 2010 SAT, I actually scored a bit worse. I took the Feb 2011 ACT which Barnard received on March 10th and got a 26 composite (32 Reading, 27 English, 9 essay, 27 English/Writing, 23 math and science).

OOh. Its a tough call, but I wish you the best of luck!! You will hear soon!

No offense, but from reading your chance thread it seemed like you were just making excuses for everything:

Your poor weighted GPA is because of grade inflation (which doesn’t make sense) and racial discrimination

Your poor unweighted GPA is because of “extenuating circumstances”

Your SAT is low because you didn’t get sleep the night before.

Did you ever go and fix some of these things? (Like increase your SAT to 2200 like you said you would?). It’s great to talk and make excuses, but if all of these things were put in your application, colleges are going to view you as just that; someone who makes a ton of excuses.

@Noskie, well, my guidance counselor did explain a lot of things I had to go through in her rec.

It really is tough to judge. Most of your schools could go either way at this point. Good luck :)

I think you’ll get into UMass and Bryn Mawr, maybe Smith.

Not sure about Smith because posters on here tend to give the impression that Smith admissions is easy, while guidance counselors and teachers always give the impression that getting into Smith is hard. Some people think getting into Smith is harder than getting into MHC, and vice versa. Tons of conflicting views.
I think that the interviewer searching you out and saying she’ll push for you is good though. Personally leads me to believe that you’ll get in.

So yeah, I think there’s plenty of hope. Sorry about having to deal with all the rejection.

You have a shot at UMass , I would not get my hopes up beyond that.

The boost in admissions that benefits URM apps will extend to around the 25%ile in SAT , sometimes below but not dramatically below unless you are a recruited athlete etc.

For instance , the 25%ile SAT for USC is around 1900 , ACT is 29 , a large reach for your application. While test scores are not the only qualifier in admissions , if you are out of the band of your competition , you need other compelling aspects in the application to get Adcoms attention.
SAT of 1720 would place you around the lo- mid 60 percentile of all test takers(1.6million) and around the 80 percentile of the approximatley 200,000 African Americans that took the test is 2010.

The good news is you have a safety admit , with merit money. Hopefully you are comfortable with attending your safety , that being the point of a safety.

Now the bad news , your list of declines are from very competitive schools.
Your SAT of 1720 in relatively weak when measured in context of Northwestern & U Chicago admits.
Your GPA of 3.08 UW & 3.66 W are also not competitive for these schools.
Your course rigor is also lacking AP’s , although your honors courses are good.
Your class rank is weak if 1/3 of your class is above 4.00.
Applying to reaches is great , but the application choices need balance and I don’t think you applied to enough target schools.

I don’t mean to be harsh , I’m just trying to give an honest assessment.
Good luck , I do hope I’m wrong and one of your reach apps come back positive.

thanks for the posts

I am trying not to lose hope

UMass shouldn’t be hard…did you qualify for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship?
Not to sure about the rest, but good luck!

Chance me back?
Lacking ecs?

What is asking people here going to to now? It won’t alter your future actions…I mean, you’re just waiting for letters now aren’t you? People ask for chances when they’re deciding which schools to apply to. Looks like you’re just trying to soothe your mind now. Just relax. There’s nothing you can do now but wait for the letters.
