I got rejected?

I’m a senior who has a 4.0 unweighted GPA, 2400 on SAT, ton of extracurricular like winning a gold medal in international
Chem Olympiad, etc. I got into Williams, Stanford, Duke, All UCs, Vanderbilt, John Hopkins, MIT, yet I got rejected from USC. Just thought it was a little ridiculous.

You can’t win them all I guess? College admissions is a game of luck sometimes as well as there are so many qualified students applying.
Congrats on all the other schools tho!!

It’s not a collection type game. You have an embarassment of riches there. Don’t make yourself look silly by fixation on USC’s decision! Congrats!

Why is it that there seem to be two types of posts this time of year.

“I was president of every EC and my school could not function without me and I got a 36 and a 2400 and a 4.0 with 20 APs (5s all) and I am a full pay US resident legacy at 10 schools who did not sleep during 4 years of high school but I still got rejected everywhere except one safety school and wait listed at one target.”

Or the OP’s post which is really a variation of “HELP, absolutely cannot decide between Stanford, MIT or Princeton, what should I do.” A humble brag which shows no consideration for those who received news in the first category and really makes everyone in the first category wonder about the system.

@disuni325 Are you domestic or international? To my knowledge, only four students represent the US in the IChO, and typically fewer get golds (one gold in 2015 and 2014, two in 2013). I find it somewhat hard to believe that an IChO gold medalist would be rejected from USC.

Maybe you sounded like that in your essays. Just a thought.

So??? Move on and decide which of the excellent choices you will attend.

I also know someone that has roughly the same stats as you and also got rejected.

I have a theory that they reject people like you because they know that you will be accepted to better colleges (HPYS), and then not attend USC, which would make USC look bad since they would need to raise their acceptance rate since more people who get accepted do not actually go. Is this theory crazy?

@SwiftTech Are you really pretending that this is your original theory?

I wouldn’t worry about it - I’m in the same boat as you. Rejected from USC, waitlisted at UCLA but accepted to Stanford and Duke. You have amazing things in store for you in the future at any of the AMAZING universities you were accepted to so stop fretting about decisions that are irrelevant to you now!

@neoking let them have their moment haha

Classic yield protection

Oh, I really did not know that this was out there. @dblazer @neoking

it’s just one school. why stress about why you didn’t get in? You got into so many great schools like Stanford, MIT, John Hopkins, etc who are excited to have you at their campus. You are currently living everyone’s dream college. So who cares about that 1 school?

Wow, the classic CC humblebrag.

Schools aren’t going to admit kids who have less than a 1% chance of actually attending.

I think it’s yield protection, same happened to me.

@SwiftTech No worries, mate, I was just poking fun, that’s all
