I got suspended from college... Please help.

You presumably are an international, student. What are the terms of your visa? You might not be allowed to remain here if you are NOT a student.

You seem a LOT more interested in whatever product you are developing than anything else. Maybe you should concentrate on that.

What makes you so sure, that you will get a scholarship following a one term suspension from your current college? I seriously doubt that will happen.

But then…this thread has me doubting the story you are presenting as well.

@Notgood What is the country that condones plagiarism ? You must be well to do in your country to afford OOS tuition at a UC. Many great CEOs like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates never finished college. May be you can follow their footsteps and become a CEO of a great company in future without a college degree. Are you on a student visa in USA ? You need to be a full-time student to remain here on student visa.

Cheating is not a mistake. It’s an intentional act.

If you can’t afford a US education, “continue” with your education in your home country. It will save you dollars, pressure, and anxiety and will open up a spot for another student who deserves it.

If your university does not have training materials for international students about US academic honor code issues, you would be doing other students a big favor if you developed some materials and donated them. Creating these documents would also give you a solid grounding in this.

If they do have materials, it is time for you to thoroughly review them.

The word mistake does not negate intent nor does it indicate a lack of volition. He didn’t say it was an accident. Accidents are not volitional; they just happen, and people who say, “It was an accident” are not taking responsibility. Mistakes are actions that were wrong or in poor judgement. Calling something a mistake is recognizing that one took an action that was wrong or misguided. I wonder if a semantic issue is making it hard for some people to see the remorse and taking responsibility that other here see.

Good luck, Notgood.

I wouldn’t listen to these “holier than thou” guys, cheating is fairly commonplace in college and you definitely aren’t the only one who has ever cheated, but you did get caught…twice.

@“aunt bea” I do feel that you are unfairly bashing this student unnecessarily for his actions when I’m sure that you have made some mistakes in life, I know I have. I am actually on the Honor Council for my college and in the case of this student would be very open to listening to any arguments he may help me see that he didn’t do his assignment with the intention of cheating. He did commit Academic Dishonesty, but I would be inclined to try and ascertain how malicious his intentions were. I also feel that your attacks upon his character and belittling his attempt to get an education are wrong and if you are really a teacher I would think you would be more understanding and at least try to get a grasp on his point of view. From my personal experience professors/teachers who lack compassion can do a sufficient job of teaching students material, but fail to understand what drives the student and how they can be the best teacher possible.

@undecided, students eventually become “employees” at some point. They will be given decisions to make and they have to rely on their judgment, experiences and education. At some point, you have to become an adult and do right by your integrity and any job/employer. In certain jobs that require clearances, it’s investigated. This is not a hard thing to do if you’ve responded well to pressured situations.

I’ve worked with many international students who are smart, hard-working, respectful, honest individuals, whose home countries may not be the best with fairness. The difference between these students and the OP is that they want to learn all things, including earning trust.

The OP title states that he needs help. That still isn’t clear where he needs help.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

I think that sums it up; there’s just nothing more to be said. Closing thread.
