<p>Here's the e-mail:</p>
<p>Greetings from New Haven!</p>
<p>My name is Eve Burstein and I'm a rising junior at Yale from upstate New York.
I'm a Psychology major with a concentration in Behavioral Neuroscience, and
outside the classroom I'm heavily involved in theatre, tutoring, and student
government. I also work as a Recruitment Coordinator for the Admissions Office,
and I'm emailing you because of your record of academic achievement to suggest
that you think about applying to Yale during your senior year.</p>
<p>Yale is a major research institution with excellent academics and outstanding
extracurricular opportunities. Because it is such a world-renowned university it
attracts a really vibrant student body: all 50 states and 74 different countries
are represented, and 45% of the student body is on financial aid. Through the
unique residential college system these students live together and learn from
each other, and this diversity that permeates all aspect of residential life
makes Yale different from other similar institutions.</p>
<p>Even after I learned about Yale's academic, extracurricular, and residential
opportunities, I knew so little about the university's financial aid policy that
I didn't think I had any hope of attending. I learned, though, that admissions
to Yale is need-blind (admissions officers don't even know if you've also
applied for financial aid, so applying doesn't hurt your chances of getting in),
and that Yale is committed to covering 100% of demonstrated student need through
grants, loans, and work-study aid. I also learned that Yale's new financial aid
policy is so generous that if your family income is less than $45,000 your
parents won't have to pay anything, and if your income is between $45,000 and
$60,000 your family contribution could be as small as $2,000. Finally, I learned
that not only does Yale help its students afford tuition, it also gives them
money for summer study and travel abroad. You can read more about our financial
policy at <a href="http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/financial_aid/index.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/financial_aid/index.html</a> and at
<a href="http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/financial_aid/glance.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.yale.edu/admit/freshmen/financial_aid/glance.html</a>. </p>
<p>With such great financial aid, you shouldn't think that Yale is out of
reach-Yale even offers a waiver for its application fee, so you really can't
lose anything by applying. Yale accepts the Common Application, which is a
single application that can be sent to many different schools. In addition to
the Common Application, Yale also requires a supplement, which is available on
our website (<a href="http://www.yale.edu/admit)%5B/url%5D">www.yale.edu/admit)</a>.</p>
<p>As a student who cares deeply about the people with whom she'll share campus for
the next two years, I genuinely hope that you will consider applying to Yale.
I'd love to talk to you about the university and the college application process
as a whole-you can just reply to this email with any questions you have and I'd
be happy to answer them. If you'd like more information directly from the
university, you can join our mailing list by visiting the website and clicking
on "request information" at the top of the toolbar on the left side of the
screen. </p>
<p>I look forward to hearing from you and hope to speak with you about Yale in the
future. Please enjoy your summer and good luck with your year!</p>
<p>Best,</p>
