I got waitlisted from Deerfield, Milton, and Exeter-What can I improve on?

I’ll try to emphasize about being kind/helpful to the community. I recently started volunteering at a veterans hospital so I’ll definitely include that.

Oh my bad, I didn’t really understand their message. I was going to apply for those schools and wanted to get into them but it was a bit late to apply this year.

I have tried out crew and sailing but they aren’t really my type of water sports. I don’t have that much stamina as the people who do crew so I feel like I wouldn’t really stand out doing crew. I think I’ll try it out but I don’t think it’ll be my fit.

That makes getting in easier, for sure. I assumed 10th…

Still do make sure it does NOT come off as you think of them only as last-resort “back-up” schools and be very clear why you would want a small school. But as a 9th, yes, I would imagine you will get in to 1, and quite likely both.

Also, just to put a plug that LPS in metro-Boston is often quite good and will give you tons of ECs and sports options (like an Exeter or a Deerfield) but not like BUA/Commonwealth due to their size.

I am sure you will thrive wherever you end up!

Thank you!

Walnut Hill is not solely for people who want to become music majors, that is a very big misconception. Many people end up matriculating to top schools and Ivy Leagues from Walnut Hill (even more than most academic boarding schools) and go on to have very respectable non-music careers. Arts boarding schools are not just for people who want to become professional musicians (although it is the majority) and it really helps in other fields.

I didn’t know about that. Thank you for educating me more about that stuff!

Just FYI
Not anywhere close to Deerfield’s matriculation list.
But that should not be why you apply to a particular school.

And Walnut Hill has some openings.

Hi! I’m a current Commonwealth student. All I have to say, is I agree with this guy.

I’m also actively witnessing our admissions office go crazy with off-the-charts numbers of applications. We barely have enough tour guides to handle prospective students. I’d say that this year, and years moving forward, are going to be different than past years; don’t be so quick to choose Commonwealth as a safety.

Yeah one of my friends said that Commonwealth had a lot of interests this year so I’m not sure. I’ll put it as a match or something like that then.

Also I’m applying as a repeat 9th grader not as a 10th grader if that helps. I think it would be something of a safety/match because of mainly AMC stuff since I don’t think a lot of DHR AMC members apply to private school (I think this because there were only 750 people who did get DHR, but from what I understand most of those 750 are other kids from China and some other countries), and along with that other stuff.

Thanks.
