i, as many jews do, want to spedn a year after high school learning in israel. does it matter if i apply to colleges in 2007 or after im in israel? (I'm graduating from hs in 2008). thanks to all who respond!

and if any jews respond can u pm about wut school in israel you chose to go to cuz im still debating. thx!

you can defer your admission to a school if that school allows it. i know that columbia does, because i recently saw a copy of their application.

I'm pretty sure every college allows delayed matriculation where you can have one year after high school until you come to the college. You have a couple years to go, though, so don't worry about it until it's time. Yale and Harvard allow it for sure.

As was said above, most schools will let you apply and then defer for a year. That way you don't have to worry about all the application hassles when you're over in Israel. However, if by "learning in Israel" you meant going to a college or university there, then you'd have to wait and apply as a transfer to American schools while you're over there, which is a whole other kettle of fish.

While what they said is generally right, I do know that not "every" college allows this..so while most do, you do need to make sure your college of choice will.

Additionally, you could wait until you're in Israel if you feel you experiences there would significantly increase your odds of admission to schools (if you did significant volunteer work, or could writean amazing essay on it).

but in general, yeah, apply while you're a senior in hs, your college will let you wait a year before entering.
