I guess UCLA is too expensive for me.

I felt almost indifferent to my acceptance because I had a hunch that it would be impossible to afford:

My provisional award looks pretty ridiculous!

Federal Pell Grant
$3,300

University Grant
$10,196

Work Study
$2,500

Loans
$25,184

Sigh... this is for ONE year. 100k+ in loans over four years undergrad? That's asking for death... Anyone else in a sticky situation like me?

I feel you- my EFC is $25,000...> no Pell grant, no Cal grant, nothing, not even workstudy. just loans. joy!

robot:

I gather you're a non-California resident, with an EFC of close to 0.

An out of state public probably isn't a good choice, financially, for you. With your low EFC, if your numbers are good, you'd probably get a better financial aid package from many private schools, or in-state public schools.

How do you find out how much you received for the University Grant?

That's Craaazy~ $100k in loans to attend UCLA! Ouch

Yeah how did you find out?

I'm in the same boat as robot.

Us too. EFC 30K. 12K in parent loans. Expected to foot the four-year 180K bill ourselves. No workstudy offered.

180,000? Are you an out-of-stater? Sounds like a private school tuition! Thankfully, I'm transferring into UCLA so I'll only have to deal with this outrageous cost for 2 years, plus I'm living in the university apartments to cut costs.

they offered me 1.7k in scholarship and 40k in loans... per year. meh.

My EFC > 30k! I have to take the entire 29K in loans (in state)! I hate it how us middle class is always unlucky..

So you first have to say you're accepted then they will show you how much they're offering?

2006-7 $42,000
2007-8 $45,000
2008-9 $49,000
2009-10 $53,000

Total: $189,000 for 4 years

If UCLA is worth it to you, you wouldn't have to think twice about the money.

kevintech: statements like that are stupid....100K debt for an undergraduate degree is meaningless....yea if it were for med school it would be worth it...

robotFOOD: why not go to a cheaper state school then come to UCLA for grad?

hey, i have it the worst out of all of you. i received NO scholarships/grants/workstudy...i only got 41k in loans per yr. beat that!! :p

so yeah, i know how you feel robotFOOD. however, my situation isnt that sticky anymore because ive given up on my dream of attending ucla - its just not worth the cost and future hardship of trying to dish out loan payments.

yeah it really sucks that i was unable to get any aid...loans here i come!
