From what I’ve heard, in orgo you need to remember like 30 “basic” rules and then apply it to everything.

If you are having to do a ton of memorizing for chemistry, then you are doing something wrong. The key for me was to get a solid textbook and read.

for general chemistry, they give you the formulas, and just remember some periodic table trends like electronegativity left to right, ionic radius top to down, the effect of additional/missing electrons in the ion, etc.

for organic just remember acids and bases, what can protonate/deprotonate what, what the difference between a nucleophile and a base are, trends in polarity, FMO theory, etc.

for non ChemE or materials people you don’t need to know physical or inorganic.

that may be true aggieengr but for some reason i’ve always been running into books which explain everything on a PHD level, or maybe im just stupid, but i spent coutnless hours last semester poring over the book, the way they explain things in mine i dont even know where to start

zumdahl is the book I was using and it explained things pretty well I thought.

If this was Facebook, I would like your comment nanashi123 haha. But seriously, I feel like every textbook out there makes it 100% harder than it has to be.

“What’s with all the hate on chemistry? I have to agree that physics is just a better all around subject but still?”

You are attracting them [sic]

EricLG: I just wanted an explanation from others why there was so much hate towards chemistry. Most my friends complain about it.

Just do 50 problems a week. That’s what I did for Ochem. I did 50 problems a week normally and do 100 problems the night before each test. It’s hard not to get it after struggling through thousands of problems.

but its such a pain in the tushy knowing u dont need to know this for ur major in turn you could care less bout this stuff cuz its so damn complicated, i used to sit down with the teacher every week 5 days a week, and even then i managed a C but boy u shoulda seen my celebration dance after that cuz after that class i dont need anymore chem! :D

oh yeah if you’re not ChemE, BioE or Materials you don’t need to know s* about chemistry, definitely. Also don’t need the 50 problems per week. I only did it because I was going for A.

50 lol try every question in the chapter, sat down with teacher 5/7 days a week felt hella bad about it since i had a feeling my tecaher was gettnig annoyed with my lack of grasping the concept, if you ask me i think i may have passed due to the fact that i studied alot with the teacher and showed that i was really willing to learn the subject, oh and i was taking physics and calculus along with this godamn class. bless her htough for passing me with a C, sold my book as well, best feeling in the world knowing u dont need to take anymore chem…
